who do you want to win the finals?

Post#1 » by fatlever » Sat May 31, 2008 3:12 pm

lakers vs celtics. wow. david sterns wet dream came true.

i'm not really a die hard fan of either team so i still havent decided who i will pulling for. lets discuss the pros and cons...

celtics
+ i love garnett
+ i enjoy watching pierce, allen and rondo
+ i've always like cassell and pj brown (even though cassell is done)
+ garnett needs a ring
- doc rivers is annoying
- i am utterly sick of boston fans and their winning sports teams
- espn has an annoying boston bias

lakers
+ i rooted for the lakers in the 80s due to james worthy (although if the 80s were now larry bird would be my fav player, so....
+ the lakers are more fun to watch, imo, thanks to a great offense
+ i like gasol, odom and walton and i dont hate kobe
+ the lakers win the battle of the euros (gasol, sasha, vlad, turiaf)
+ jessica alba goes to laker games
- phil jackson is annoying
- watching band-wagon celebs at laker games is annoying
- derek fisher is annoying
- did i mention that phil jackson is annoying

tough call. i have a feeling that garnett will trump all the other stuff and i will end up rooting for the celtics, but i may not figure it out until about game 3.

footnote - the bobcats beat both of these teams on the road.

I hope the NBA goes on strike after game three and these Finals are never completed.

I hate Kobe, but I also hate a bunch of over-the-hill ring-chasers as well. It's a lose-lose situation.

If I had to, I'd probably pick Boston, just because I really hate Kobe.

Been a Lakers fan since the 80's before the Hornets were around so obviously I'm pulling for them.

Here are some sub plots that I find interesting.

The Zen Master trying to overtake Red as the coach with the most rings vs Red's team.

Ray Allen vs Kobe Bryant who absolutely hate each other.

Paul Pierce playing his home town team in the Finals and finally getting his shot to prove himself among the elite.

KG and his monkey that likes to hang on his back.

Kobe going for his first title without Shaq.

Its Lakers vs Celtics. Nuff said!

As for my feelings:

I personally don't hate anybody on either team. I find the Lakers about 10x more watchable due to their great ball movement though.

Odom is my favorite player on the Lakers so I hope he plays well against KG and causes him problems on defense/offense.

Phil vs. Doc. After seeing such great coaching by both him and Pop in the last series this might be laughable.

If the Lakers happen to lose then to me at least it's to the Celtics which is who I wanted to come out of the East and It'll be nice to see KG finally shut some peoples mouths.

Still I think it only goes 6 and that's because the Celtics host the first two games at home. I also think the Spurs and maybe even the Hornets would win if they had made it to the Finals.

Yes, I'd rather watch either of those teams. Or even better, one of those teams, versus one of these two teams now in the Finals, and have the Spurs/Pistons beat them. I'd much prefer that.

You are telling me you prefer to see the Pistons against the Spurs then the Lakers against the celtics ?

Pulling hard for the Celtics. Why:
1. I want the Eastern Conf to win
2. Kobe is a spoiled jackass.
3. Dont like Phil Jackson and his Zen magic
**Just b/c I dont like Kobe or Phil does not mean I dont respect them. Kobe is a top 10 of all time player, and Phil a brilliant Coach. I just dont like their attitudes.
4.Garnett deserves a ring after all the crap he put up with in MINN
5. Dont want Kobe to win without Shaq after he ran Shaq out of town
6.Dont want Phil to catch and pass Red.
7. Boston only has a couple yrs left in their window of opportunity, while Lakers have likely 5-6 yrs.
8. They friggin stole Gasol! How does the NBA allow that deal? I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but Damn. How can any team's front office just simply "give" away Gasol for what little they received back. I mean, those 1st round draft picks are going to be at the end of the round. They are not going to get any big time player with those picks, and certainly nothing like Gasol. I smell a rat.

I would love to see this Lakers team take on the Bad Boys of the Old Pistons. Zeke may be a pervert now and a crappy GM/Coach, but the man could run circles around this Lakers defense. Kobe or Odom drive the lane only a couple times before Mahorn and Lambeer knocked them on their butts and sent them to the bench crying. No one was tougher or had more attitude than those Pistons. I did not root for them, but I sure as hell respected their game! Stop all this talk on radio sports talk about this Laker team being one of the best of all time. BS!! They dont hold a candle to the Showtime Lakers, the Bad Boy Pistons, or even the Bulls in their Title run.

I'm through venting. I despise the loathsome, evil, diabolical Lakers.

Ha, it's funny all the Charlotte fans still hate Kobe...damn this city never lets anything go. ;)

The only guy I don't like in the league is probably Wade. After Wadegate 2006 it's hard for me to root for him at all even though the calls he gets have been toned down. In fact it's kind of funny now because he'll forget to land on two feet and ends up costing his team when he doesn't get a whislte, kind of like Parker always being on the ground and his team ends up playing 4 on 5.

No, my first choice would be Pistons/Lakers, or Celtics/Spurs, with either the Pistons or Spurs winning.

I don't want to see either of the two teams now in the Finals win the championship.

I don't think the Pistons would have beat any team from the Western Conference Semi's. They're too flaky/weak willed and would have been horrible to watch implode again in the Finals.

Btw I found this on another board. Not sure if it's been floating around realgm so forgive if it's on the gen board or something but it's pretty funny.

I actually agree a lot with Hamilton on this one. It's great for the NBA that it's C's v. Lakers, but I don't want to see either of these teams win it all this year--I was definitely rooting for Detroit.

I guess I prefer the Celtics?

that video is great. that just may push the edge to the lakers, unless leon powe's fans can come up with something clever in the next 4 days.

I know you like Kobe but your a Lakers fan and Gobobcats is from switzerland. Although it was only a joke I was talking about all the jaded bitter guys that live here in Charlotte and resent him playing his cards when he knew Charlotte was drafting him for the Lakers anyway. :P

Still I couldn't be more hyped for this series and I'm going nuts waiting for the games to start. I got home from work last night and was flipping between the 1963 Finals on NBATV and a 1984 game on ESPN Classic and it was just getting me pumped up. Then on ESPN they show a game from 87 which I haven't watched since I was 10. It brought back so many memories and my love for the Lakers as a child. I actually busted out my old Genesis and put in my old Lakers vs. Celtics game. Boy was that a blast from the past. :D Those games back then didn't keep stats from game to game so my cousin and I would track them on paper from the series we'd play against one another. Yes I was a geek...but a cool one.

Anyway this hype is killing me. It's usually only reserved for football games because of the week off but I don't have the same love for football that I do for basketball so this is gut wrenching. I dream about the game. I wake up thinking about it. If they don't start playing soon I might go out and hurt myself trying to reinvent Magic's Jr. skyhook against the local kids down at the park.

I wish I could enjoy that. I even like Freddy. I've tried and tried watching soccer games but It's never pulled me in. I don't know I might give it a shot again tonight. I know Freddy is a Kobe fan though so that'll tie into the Lakers a bit. :P

well you've got the euro cup starting in a week or so... that's gonna be fantastic... at least for me. :) the good thing about soccer is... its pretty much year round action. club play starts in august and lasts until may. in the summer you still get national team friendlies, world cup, euro cup, olympics, world cup qualifying and of course.............. the mls.

oh no... i see you have switched to the odom avatar for the finals. nice.
