Bobcats War Room - 2008 Draft - Pick #29

Congratulations are in order to Nathan Jawai, the Australian Center, who is our recent electee to our draft board listing of Players We'd Love to Have!
We are nearing the end of the first round. And with that comes the time to evaluate that 1st round type of talent that for whatever reason (cough, 2 Guard, Small Fwd., cough) we have not seen them get support for placement on our list. So how much first round talent slides down, tantalizing us for our pick at 38?
By far and away, the two best received players as judged by my five reference mocks are Chris Douglas-Roberts of Memphis, and Jason Thompson of Rider College. Each one is the top man remaining in at least one mock. Much as we need for someone good to drop to # 38, are these players so useless that we could not at least make either of these guys useful in a trade. With Detroit picking at # 29, could a trade with the Pistons cause us to be picking here?
Could our answer to the above question be that we are in the midst of somewhat equal talent/forecasted usefulness.... and that each player left in this part of the draft has a certain number of warts which will have to be coached away once the player hits training camp and beyond? I think so. But we only have to look back one year and see our man Dudley to know that picking here is by no means a throw away pick for us.
So lets give this one a good shot, and hope we can find ourselves a roster player here. 24 hours, 1 vote, gotta get our man! We will conclude by 10 PM Monday.
