Bobcats bought in Donte Greene and Joe Alexander. Now I've seen Alexander as high as #8, but usually around low teens pick. Greene is not Top 10 in recent weeks, and is somewhere around #13 - #18. Does this not smell of a Trade coming with us trading back a few spots? Interesting.

A trade down seems like a good possibility but theyre probably makin sure they dont miss out on the best player. I read somewhere that an nba exec said mock drafts dont mean a heck of a lot to teams.

I would trade down/acquie another pick for Ibaka. Hey, I would even trade out future pick, even 09' (lottery or TOP 10 protected). Or May, Harrington, etc.

i would LOVE to trade up to say #5. I MAYO even want to trade up to #3. [rim shot + cymbal].

i think joe has a real chance of sneaking into the top 10. he's physically an absolute beast. they better give him a sound interview though... those west virginia kids are trouble.

If Love and Randolph aren't there at #9 I'm up for a trade down, and I hope the team would be too. Alexander is a complete freak, but since it's questionable whether he has actual basketball skills I don't think Brown is likely to want him (much like Jordan).

Yeah trading down and picking up a pick and a plyayer would probably be the best way to go for the Bobcats.

I wouldn't trade down unless we get something substantial in return. I'm sure one of the better players will be there at our draft pick (Augustin, Randolph, Lopez, etc), so I see no reason to trade down.

we can trade down and still get a very decent player. This draft is maybe not strong but pretty deep. If we get something valueble in return and still be able to get someone like Ibaka then it is not a bad idea.

I'd add Love into that grouping also. And I agree that holding at #9 would not be too bad. But what I was pointing out is that we were pulling in two guys in Alexander and Greene who most likely will not go Top 10. Maybe Alexander, but certainly not Greene. And both play the SF position, but Alexander can play the PF some as well. But with Crash on board, why are we looking at those 2 guys? That is what makes me think they are talking about a trade back and sending Crash elsewhere for a PF we have our eye on. It just looks a little odd to me that we are calling in these two considering our needs and where we are picking.

I think that these are the tiers in the draft:

1. Beasley, Rose

2. Mayo, Bayless

3. Love, Randolph, Gordon, Westbrook, Lopez, Jordan, Augustine, Gallinari

4. Alexander, Arthur, Budinger, Greene, Speights

5. Everyone Else

I don't mind trading down within tier 3, but not to tier 4. And the only way I trade up is to get into tier 2, not within tier 3.

Yep, that's the tier I want to draft players from. Maybe it's because the only tier I know much about, but still. Again, unless we're getting back something substantial (which I doubt we would be, if we are only trading down a few picks), I'd rather just keep our pick and draft one of those guys, of which some are guaranteed to be there at our pick.

i dont think our FO is crafty enough to pull off a - trade down, pick up and asset and still get the player they want - type of move... so you dont need to worry about it.

Well, it could be a little game to get attention, but if the Wade-Mayo friendship is true, and Miami is eyeing Mayo at #2, that would drop Beasley to #3. Is there any deal you can make or would make in order to get McHale and MINN to bite in a trade? You would have to make it good, so one of our core would have to go, or no deal could be made.

i think my tiers are a little different

1. beasley rose
2. mayo love bayless lopez
3. augustine westbrook gordon randolph gallinari
4. arthur jordan alexander

thats my teirs for the bobcats (my rankings for us within each teir)

as it stands now, we should have our choice of at least 3 players from teirs 2 and/or 3, which puts us in good shape, imo. if a player from tier 2 is available draft them regardess. if they are both in teir 3, pick the best fit for the team, which imo would be augustine or westbrook.

i would be OK with a move back to 14 (the end of teir 4) assuming we received a nice player or pick in return. i would not move back past 14, unless we got a great deal.

I think it would be something like Wallace, Ammo and #9 for the pick swap.

edit: I've been thinking about this more and remembered that from what I've read, Beasley is going to be drafted #2, but Miami is willing to trade down a spot or two so they can get Mayo at his accepted draft position (fwiw: I think this is generally stupid and you should take the guy you want, but it can workout sometimes I guess)...

no randolph in your tiers fats? I don't know about upgrading love and lopez. If anything, I would put love, lopez, and randolph in a tier 2.5.

I agree with those rankings, except I would switch Lopez and Gordon. I think Lopez's lack of strong Defense drops him back a tier, and Gordon's great athleticism moves him up to tier 2. Otherwise, I agree with those rankings.

Fatlever, do you think that Miami is serious about Mayo over Beasley? If they did take him #2, what would you try to offer MINN to get Beasley if you could? Since McHale likes Love and he or Randolph may make it it to #9, we might be able to entice them into a deal.

My rankings:

1) Beasley/Mayo
2) Rose
3) Everybody else.

ooops... i put him in by first name - anthony. but yes, he's towards the end of my 3rd teir behind the guards. reason being... i view anthony as a sf and not a pf. i think westbrook and dj provide a need.

i definitely think its real. and if i was the heat, i would probably select mayo over beasley as well. can you imagine a mayo/wade backcourt? something must be said about mayo's relationship with wade and mayo's maturity level. i think if the heat want mayo though they will have to take him at 2. no way minnesota trades up. they have all the leverage. i think the heat just have to bite the bullet, not get too cute, and take the player they feel is the best fit for their team and if that means gifting beasley to minny at 3... oh well.

knowing all that... i think minny will value the 3rd pick more than they would if they knew beasley was going at 2. i think he would take more than wallace and 9 to get 3. i would turn that down if i was mchale.
