He's already given up on Morrison. No way!

Interesting that they start the "state of the cap" articles with us. Sometimes I feel like they write randomly.

I wonder if it was a lack of bravery what caused there is no mention about Nazr and if his contract is positive or negative. I expected more speculation about Okafor signing. And no word about Sam Vincent. I was kinda surprised they write about Carroll's contract as about the second best thing contractwise.

Yeah, how could anyone suggest that Morrison and May are done...

Haha May is a very good player. I see a lot of teams wanting to trade for him. Maybe the Bobcats can get another late first round pick or a second rounder and a player to trade him.

I'm willing to trade May to anyone who would be willing to not take any health checks before the trade...

A first rounder? Where do I sign?

Imaging even replacing May with primising Ibaka or someone like him is a dream scenario. Not sure about others members of the board.

Is it expected that the Bobcats will be under the salary cap after re-signing Okafor?

No.

Look at the 08/09 season, all the way to the bottom. That's the number including all capholds. Obviously we're going to lose some of that, but we're still talking in the 60 million range.

spectre - did you ever figure out the correct cap hold for okafor? i seem to remember there was some confusion about his number.

Kind of Free Agent
Larry Bird, following the fourth season of his rookie scale contract

Previous salary
At least the average salary

Free Agent Amount
250% of his previous salary*

If you go by that one then his hold should be 13.6 million, but there's also a line about his QA (7.1 million) and another (notice the asterisk after previous salary) where it says it can't be over the maximum...see line item 11...which is 13 million.

I'd guess around 13/14 million this summer (and maybe up to 17, but I don't think DX is right there) and then his QO next summer if we don't work a deal.

So far as being over the cap...it's so hard to judge what's being counted it's just safer to assume we'll be over. Take last season for example...we all thought we were slightly under the cap...and then we go and offer the full MLE to Varejao. How did we do that since we weren't over? Come to find out, if you're salary is WITHIN the MLE amount they go ahead and assume you're going to use it and count it against you (they adjust after the season when they do the luxury tax hit). So if we're within 5-6 million of the cap in outgoings, then technically we're already over.

right... in terms of MLE you can be under and still offer the MLE as long as you are only under the cap by less than the full MLE amount. thats fair, as not to punish those teams who are only 2 mil under the cap. i had to look that up many many years ago when i first joined rgm and starting playing one of those gm leagues during the summer. i was the hornets and we were slightly under the cap.

so, if we are under the cap, it will be barely (certainly not more than the MLE amount), meaning we can offer the MLE. if we are over the cap then we of course will have the MLE.

the only way we can do something radical is by renouncing okafor or doing a s&t........right?

and of course we can sign unlimited players to the vet min as long as we dont go over the roster limit by the start of the season.
