RealGM fan mock draft: Bobcats on the clock!

Post#1 » by smoothie » Sun Jun 22, 2008 1:21 am

using knowledge of recent reports from the team you follow most closely, please form an educated guess as to whom your team will select and why.

this is not about who you want your team to draft, but who you think they want to draft given the situation below.

Draft Board:
1. Chicago - Rose
2. Miami - Beasely
3. Minnesota - Mayo
4. Seattle - Bayless
5. Memphis - Love
6. New York - Westbrook
7. LA Clippers - Gordon
8. Milwaukee - B.Lopez

after posting this thread in every board leading up to yours, i've got this draft board with a shocker in Milwaukee. apparently, they don't feel mgmnt is really taken with any sf options in the draft and will go best player available... that being lopez .

i'm very interested to read your responses! you're on the clock!

This is tough! Westbrook and Love is out. Lopez, a possible Bobcat selection, is gone too.

I think you have to consider Joe Alexander, DeAndre Jordan, Anthony Randolph, DJ Augustin, Alexis Ajinca, and Darrell Arthur.

Given Brown's track record, I think he'll go with Ajinca and that we'll be regretting that pick for a long time. I'm just not sold with what i'm seeing of him.

I would trade the pick given the circumstances, but you said who you really think the pick is going to be given the scenario.

I just read thru the Bucks' thread you created over there and it looked to me like Alexander had the most votes with 4? Lopez came in tied for 2nd with some guy named Stiemsma.

Not that it matters, don't want Lopez anyway.

Randolph.

Boy, I hope it doesn't come out like this. If it does, and we cannot trade down, then I go with he best available player. I'd take either Augustin or Alexander. Likely Augustin as we need a back up PG and Augustin can push Ray to improve or he can take over the starter role if Ray cannot improve.

I sure hope things don't play out this way, because it looks like some of the guys I thought might drop, all went ahead of us.

I would go with Augustin, but I guess they would draft Randolph, or reach on someone like Ajinca.

If the draft really plays out that way, I really don't know what direction they go. I want them to draft Augustin. I would imagine it would make the most sense for them to draft Randolph. But they really like Ajinca. But if they are going to draft big, thinking Okafor will play PF, I could see them going for someone like Jordan, with big-time upside.

I really have no clue what they would do if the draft goes this way. They should trade down a few spots and draft whoever falls of the group we are looking at drafting now. I guess my vote is for..........Randolph.

Even though I wouldn't be surprised if they do reach for someone like Jordan or Ajinca, especially if Augustin doesn't come in and work out. But right now Randolph makes the most sense, even if I think it's a realistic possiblity they pass on him and go for one of the other big men mentioned (Jordan, Ajinca).

glad you brought that up.

most of the time people respond with who they want rather than give me an answer as to who they think the team is leaning towards... or would lean towards given the situation created above.

i wouldn't count answers such as "id go with..." or "i hope they..." and definitely not a two word answer posting of only a players name.

i'm looking for educated guesses. not opinions.

tell me "our gm said this guy had a great workout. if he's there they'll take him" or "our team has said they will draft for talent over position, so we're going with lopez." and those responses will be considered for the draft board.

Westbrook.

err.. I wouldn't be surprised if we took DeAndre Jordan. Sorry about the Westbrook post, it was late.

That draftboard is really bad for us........ I'd be really looking for a trade if this is a true indication, but since it's not an option I'd have to go with Randolph.

I simply can't believe that the Bucks will go with Lopez.

This is interesting, if the board shakes out like this there's nothing but projects left. You guys might trade down in this case. It would be a good opportunity for Portland to trade up if we were targeting a guy like DJ Augustin. Maybe Frye, Minny's 2nd rounder and the 13 for 9?

I think it's like this too!

Either we take a project guy at this stage ... I think it would be Randolph or Koufos

Or we just simply trade down and maybe getting some quality compensation (like Bonzi wrote)

Or we form a package of the BPA + Carroll + Nazr and trade it for something useful for our playoffs dreams ... maybe Alexander + Carroll + Mohhamed for Watson + Wilcox + #24 (Ajinca) ... but it could be something better aswell, if somebody has a good idea share it.

why do you guys say that your team really likes ajinca? has there been any reports to back that up? i don't believe he's even been in for a workout.

can you really see the team going with augustin if there are no bigs remaining that are worth #9?

doesn't seem like browns style (or the teams style in recent history) to draft projects like randolph or jordan. do you see them as a possibility only because the team wants size?

just to throw some names out there... what about koufos, or arthur?

You ask who we think we would draft and then you try and change our minds?

If you already had someone in mind, why come here and ask the fans?

And yes, Ajinca did come in (with Jordan, Hibbert and McGee) and Coach Brown said he was impressed by him - but he has said that about everyone who has come in.

Brown said we take BPA, no matter if he needs some development. So I say we will take a project player ... the other two options I wrote only matter, if there will be a good offer from another team.

Augustin was not in yet for a workout, I don't think we will take him without a workout. So ... in this scenario it will be Randolph, Alexander, Koufos or trading down to Arthur, Ajinca ... or trading our pick away for a good pg (maybe a pg + pf).

im not sure what gave you that impression. im not here to change anyones mind on anything. i believe i've only been asking questions. i form an opinion based on meaningful responses (not replies which only consist of a players name) and then run it by you to make sure i got it right / you agree with that. if it's wrong tell me why so i can have a better understanding of your thought process.

the above quote makes a lot of sense to me. does anyone else agree with it?

the most common names in this thread are randolph and ajinca. if the above is true... which one do you think they lean towards?

if you dont agree with the above quote or my own reasoning, tell me why and provide an alternative draft choice.

Where I can't see the Bobcats taking Lopez when they have Yi and Bogut, not to mention Villanueva. For the sake of this I'll say Anthony Randolph, giving the Bobcats there first real "non-safe" pick....ever.

With this draft progression, that deal is a slam dunk. We'd trade down and take Ajinca or something.

If we're stuck here and Minnesota bizarrely gives up on Yi/Bogut, then I think the front office would probably select Randolph.
