Building the Prototype Bobcat Player - Point Guard
Posted: Mon Jun 23, 2008 10:42 am
I'm starting a new seven part series to give us something else to think about as we go forward in the building process of the team. What qualities would the "Ideal" Bobcat point guard have. Since this is a position of need in the upcoming draft, it is a relevant thing to think about.
First, a little disclaimer. It is not my intention to break this down into an indictment of Brevin Knight, Ray Felton, Jeff McInnis or any other player that has served in the position of point guard for the Bobcats. This is a build for the future exercise. (Note to mods- I consider negative comments about current players in this thread to be OFF TOPIC!) So stay focused, guys. We are building, not tearing down.
Now, I have come up with a few qualities that I want you to rank in order of importance from 1 to 26. Just to give me and my spreadsheet something to do, I will be keeping a running score of our results and will record them from time to time. This will not be a daily poll, rather I'm keeping this open-ended because there is a lot to digest and prototypes take time to build. If I have left out a vital quality or have a redundant one in here, please let me know, so that we can fix the model.
Just so you know, we will do centers, power forwards, combo forwards, small forwards, shooting guards and combo guards at a later time. Right now, let's focus on that all important point guard position.
So here are the qualities you will have to rank:
Has Good Forward Speed
Has Good Lateral Speed
Durability
Clutch Shooter
Good Passer
Good Defender-One on One
Good Defender-Disruptor
Good Shot Selection
Good Shot Percentage-Inside the Arc
Good Shot Percentage-3 Pointers
Good Free Throw Shooter
Draws a Lot of Fouls
Good Basketball IQ
Good Practice Player
Good Locker Room Guy
Good Floor Leadership
Good Offensive End Rebounder
Good Defensive End Rebounder
Good at Boxing Out in the Lane
Good Post Up Game
Good Leaping Ability
Good Transition Player
Makes His Teammates Better Players
Plays Well Without the Ball
Coachable Player
Good Citizen Off the Court
and two other items not involved in the ranking part:
Ideal Height Range:
Ideal Weight Range:
There it is, Bobcat Nation! Working parts. Now tab A goes into slot B........... Oh! Give this one your best shot for the team!
