Time to go on the record, who YOU would draft?

Post#1 » by W_HAMILTON » Thu Jun 26, 2008 11:42 am

I'd say it's fair to pick any of the players outside of Rose/Beasley/Mayo, who are the only ones truly guaranteed to go before #9. I don't think we have a thread like this anywhere else, so here everyone can go on the record with who they want to draft, and we can look back in a couple of years and see who was on the mark :) This is not who you think we will draft, or who you think we will draft if they are still around with our pick, it's who YOU would draft, choosing from a reasonable list of players that could be around our picks.

#9 - DJ Augustin
#20 - Alexis Ajinca
2nd round pick - I have no idea, I don't even know what pick we have.

Call me crazy - GO AHEAD DO IT! - but I'd pick Ajinca at 9.

Yup.

Make fun of me now, and then get back to me in a few years to eat crow, ok?

#9 Westbrook
#20 J.J. Hickson ( although I doubt he is even in thze consideration)
#38 Pekovic

Some of you don't know much about Pekovic but he is the BEST centre in the draft, but since he insn't coming over in next 2-3 years he goes in the second round. But Charlotte should at least take a chance he comes some day. Otherwise for #38 I wan't Hendrix.

<-----Freely admits to not watching a lick of college ball this year and likes it that way. That's why I've stayed out of most draft discussion.

With that said:

#9 Love
#20 Ajinca
#38

Talk about Deja Vu, the exact three I was going to post. I might swap out Hibbert for Ajinca if he is available at that point, but either or work fine for me.

I don't know if Ibaka lasts that long, but I love him as a prospect personally.

9- 1st: Kevin Love, 2nd: Brook Lopez, 3rd: BPGA
20- 1st: Alexis Ajinca, then either a "force inside big" like Hibbert or another "offensive talent big" like Ryan Anderson. If a good PG falls, I'd probably take one of them...but I wouldn't suprised to see only "settle on..." pgs available.

38- to late in the draft to call. This would have to be Best player available or best guy available I can store with a foreign team.

This is really difficult because so much is still unknown.

1st pick: If Kevin Love is there at 9, I fully endorse that pick. This is a homerun. If we move up to 5 to take Love without giving up much, I support this decision as well and it still has great pick potential, just depends on what we'd give up. I do not want Russell Westbrook. If he falls to us at 9, we should take Augustin instead. If Bayless falls and love is not available, we should take him and be ecstatic about it. If Bayless and Love are gone, this means Lopez falls who I would only hold reservations about b/c people would immediately claim we were trying to find a way to take Robin as well...

to summarize: Love, Bayless, Lopez/Augustin

20th pick, assuming we keep it: I've come around to Hibbert. I've made just as many jokes on him as anyone else, but he has high bbiq, can play right away, ought to be a good anchor on defense. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced he'd be around. Koufus is a teen pick, but if he falls to 20 we take him. Arthur I would love to have, even if we took Love with the first pick. With PF being such a weakness, may as well hedge the bet. If all of those are gone, Chalmers or Speights.

to summarize: Hibbert is good if we take Love, Bayless or Augustin. If we take Lopez I'd prefer to take Arthur or Chalmers, unless neither is available, in which case we should take Speights.

38: If we don't take 2 bigs by now, Hendrix or DJ White are solid picks. If we have gone big, we should take Pekovic and bring him over when his Panathinaikos contract expires. If we don't get to take Pekovic, Jamont Gordon is a good pick up. If not Gordon, let's take Walker. If they're gone, eh.. Mbah a Moute?

Assuming we stand pat with the picks o'course. I really have no opinion on the 38th pick, but I'd be perfectly fine with the 1st 2.

Now it looks like Serge Ibaka will probably slip out of first round because of his new contract in Spain, but I couldn't see how he can be passed by Sonics at No.32. If he is not there I don't really have a favourite player at No.38 I guess someone could slip from first round as well.

I agree Sonny or DeVon would be good consolidation price.

#9 - Love / Westbrook / Lopez
#20 - Hibbert / Kufos / Ajinca
#38 - I don't even know, Ibaka?

I would also push hard to package both picks and maybe something else to move up to Miami's pick and land Beasley. We walk away with Beasley and you can call it an A+ draft.

#9: Dream Scenario would be if Love or Westbrook falls. If not, DJ Augustin
#20: Donte Greene, Kosta Koufos, Ajinca, or Darrell Arthur
#38: Malik Hairston, Richard Hendrix or DJ White
