DeSagana N'gagne Diop

Post#1 » by CarolinaCash » Wed Jul 2, 2008 4:21 am

Ricky Bonnell has been producing a lot of reading material.....I like. Bonnell is saying the Bobcats may be interested in Diop and are being active exploring free agent possibilities. My problem is that I want Okafor and Nazr playing the 5......Diop would make Okafor play the 4. Diop seems similar to Nazr but with more shotblocking skills and less offensive skills. Who will guard the perimeter 4's? It seems to me that the Bobcats do want Okafor at 4.....against our wishes. There has been no signs of them targeting a power forward but they were close to picking Lopez and maybe even Hibbert.

Also, what other free agents do you think the Bobcats are looking at?

On Hoopshype/Rumors they're saying Dallas, Miami and Charlotte expressed interest and they're expecting him to get the full MLE. If we had a way to outbid those teams I might could see it; straight up I don't really like our chances.

Would this mean management (and maybe Mek himself) sees Mek as a PF and would plan to play Diop at the 5 or is this insurance?

Diop for the full MLE? Pass. His best numbers were his numbers with the Mavs last year. 3 points a game, 5.2 rebs a game, 1.2 blks a game, 1.9 fouls a game, 58.3 fg%, 60 ft% in 17.2 minutes a game.

I wouldn't pay over $3 mil a year for that. Which means some NBA team will use its full MLE for that. I really hope that team isn't the Bobcats.

spectre was just guessing what could be behind it. He didn't say he would want it. Read his post:)

Well maybe we are considering Okafor as a part of the team way to much. He is only under qualifying offer, it would be logic if they are preparing plan B just in case. Hopefully we won't need any such a plan B.

Thanks Doc, but he's right...I never read his posts!

I know a lot of us think Mek is a 5, but there's been a lot of hints out there that management doesn't...last year the Idiot couldn't make up his mind. I read somewhere that Mek considers himself a 5 but I don't remember personally.

Diop on a full MLE deal and multiple years will not be a cheap contract. Folks say Nazr's deal is bad, but at least he can pass out of the high post and he's got a small offensive arsenal. I don't see why we'd chase so hard after a player like that, nor why he'd be the first name we hear in FA.

I guess it could just be depth...maybe their hopes are so high on Ajinca and May that they're just shoring up all the possible weaknesses that they can.

I'd rather POB - who I think would be jsut as good on D, has move O and would come much cheaper with still some upside to potentially reach.

Then again, how many raw bigs do we want at one time?

We already have Ajinca, Hollins and Davidson.

not a fan of this news... diop will get paid way too much money. he is the kind of player you add when you are one defensive center short of a deep playoff run, like perkins w/ boston. he's not a player you spend 6 mil per on when you are still in the lottery and already are paying 6 mil for nazr and soon to be 13 mil for okafor. diop will never play more than 24mpg for a good team.

Maybe LB wants to start "Bobcats 101" for the big guys over the summer, trying to instill the skills and attitude that these raw players will need to be able to contribute come November. Otherwise, this big red flag that is flying right now may become a big white one later. Only one problem that I see (other than the too large salary for Diop)....Have we even hired a big man coach yet?

I have not seen an update on a big man coach anywhere that I consider reputable, but Yahoo Sports has our updated roster (with our three draft picks) and they list Mokeski as an assistant coach on Larry Brown's staff.

I think I saw Mokeski sitting down or standing in the background during the bobcat.com videos, way after I asked about who the guy that ended up being Lasalle Thompson was.

I seriously doubt that Bonnell has any real insight into what LB, HIggins, and MJ are thinking. I think this is just blind speculation, based on his reasoning. Diop? Nope.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

Sources told ESPN.com that Diop, traded by the Mavericks to New Jersey in February as part of the Jason Kidd deal, will receive the Mavericks' full mid-level exception in a five-year deal starting at nearly $6 million.

It's not always a bad thing to lose.
