the influence of larry brown

we are already starting to see signs of his coaching and influence as relayed through bonnell's recent columns and blogs. for the first time in the history of the franchise these players are finally getting some actual basketball coaching, not just motivational speeches about being a man and playing with energy or off-hand comments about passing the ball into the post or staying out too late, relayed through the media to the players.
http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_n ... luenc.htmlits good to see him getting on the players (mostley ammo and hollins in this practice) and correcting the little things. thats what coaching is all about. if the players can accept it, then we will be so much better off for it.
did you guys see that part about vincent? that is insane. my god, he might be the worst coach ever.
The other thing you notice about Brown’s practices is how free the assistants are to offer input. Phil Ford, Dave Hanners and LaSalle Thompson constantly took players aside to clean up errors. Ford has made D.J. Augustin his pet project, reminding the rookie point guard he can’t shy away from ordering around veterans when they’re out of position.
Assistants asserting themselves didn’t happen so much under previous coach Sam Vincent. By-and-large, the assistants were told to keep a low profile. In fact, there were orders limiting how much assistant coaches could talk to Vincent during games. (Yes, it got bizarre.)
ranking the coaches....
http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_n ... arlot.htmlcool article. i love lists, especially ones that rank stuff about basketball.
and guess who was dead last? vincent of course. even behind gene littles. amazing.
http://www.charlotte.com/bobcats/story/708306.htmlHe's done more real teaching – cleaning up players' bad habits – in four days this summer than former Bobcats coach Sam Vincent did all last season.
this one made ham smile, i'm sure.
“We get the ball to the open man without exception. If somebody has a better shot than you, regardless of who it is, you throw it to him!''
that will help felton.... and it will also help wallace, who really took some bad shots at times last year.

Sam Vincent was kind of thrown under the bus with this team. Then you go get Larry Brown. Its pretty much comparing a Volkswagon Rabbit with a Rolls Royce.
I didn't like the settle hire of Vincent.
Now if we could just see signs of "active management". Team needs a veteran backup PG, MJ.

Sam threw himself under the bus.
He can't blame anyone but himself for what happened last season and for him not coaching in the NBA this season.

we knew it was bad, but i had no idea he was that bad. what kind of coach (especially a first year coach) doesnt accept input from his assistants? thats insane.

love how brown's coaching has even gotten bonnell's writing a little better. his most recent articles have all been much better in terms of material and style in my opinion

maybe LB yelled at bonnell after practice. "you've gotta bring it every morning" "you cant take days off" "this is the newspaper, not a message board, a newspaper, newspaper, not a message board, we're talking about a newspaper, a newspaper etc...." "and shave all that GD moustache while you're at it. this ain't 1981"
j/k rick. we love the new stuff.

Or, all those reported cutbacks at the Observer caused him to get his ass in gear. To be honest, given a large amount of his work last season, I really don't see why they would even keep him on the payroll. He wasn't insightful, he told us things we already knew, and he was regularly wrong about most of the stuff he reported. You don't need to pay someone big bucks to copy and paste the AP game recap and sprinkle a few quotes in, and write a blog once a week that doesn't really give you any insight into the team.

Agreed, plus it'd be nice to have a writer that doesn't hate the franchise, lol.

I agree. Even I could do that from Czech Republic. Being paid for that, I would be better. That's how bad he has been. (Maybe he just has benn scared by all the comments from Sean May's mother in discussions under articles:)

Hahahaha... beautiful. Maybe LB's tuning up Rufus, the TopCats, the concessions people... I can imagine the whole organization benefiting from some hardass coaching.
"Come on! You call that a T-shirt throw?! FOLLOW-THROUGH! Come on, go steal a signal from the opposing huddle! I want to see some HUSTLE on those dance moves!"

Good to see this progress and expansion of influence on the team
That is bad about Vincent... I honestly thought he'd be better than he was.

I've gotten to the point where I am actually optimistic about the team this year - THAT'S how bad Vincent seems to have been last season.
It seems to have been far worse than anyone thought possible.
God, what a screwup hiring him was.

http://www.charlotte.com/bobcats/story/710037.htmlAccording to Dudley, Brown has installed more offense, with more options off each play, in four days of summer camp than the Bobcats used all of last season.
“ Way more complexity. You're going to have to have a high basketball IQ to play for him.''
“I'm not saying Sam Vincent (Brown's predecessor) was definitely a bad coach, but this coach has so much more experience. He's been with so many teams and won championships. He had Dean Smith teach him. He's going to be so thorough. Already (before) training camp, we have everything we had last year, if not more.''

IF ammo can find a way to carve out some PT, he is really going to benefit from LBs offense. we could finally see that offensive player we saw at gonzaga.

like i was saying
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9428If Adam Morrison is healthy Brown could have a huge impact on him, because it would seem those two are a match made in heaven.
