How does this board view the selection on DJ Augustin?
Are people happy to see that the Bobcats have shored up the PG position and in all likelyhood got themselves a sixth man instint offense guy for the second unit. I don't think he should be viewed as a replacement for Felton but i'm a Celtics fan who just enjoys following basketball in general.
I think the Bobcats should be able to expect solid PG play for 48 minutes a night and at times they'll likely go with a Augsutin/Felton backcourt since they really don't have any players who create shots for others at other positions.
I heard some people were unhappy that the Bobcats passed on Brook Lopez but I actually don't think that was a mistake since I think he'd have been a terrible match with Emeka Okafor. I firmly believe that Emeka should be used fulltime at the center position where his lack of height is his only flaw instead of at PF where his lack of ball handling and range are problems.
I mean the real weakness in Emeka Okafor's game is his lack of refined skills gets exposed when he gets more then 12-15 feet from the rim. I do question not coming out of the 2007 draft without Joakim Noah who would've been a great match for him and the 2006 draft without Brandon Roy which was just beyond stupid but Lopez would've just made those mistakes even worse.

I think you'll find that the majority of the board agrees with about everything you said. DJ atm is looked at as a backup but has potential to maybe overtake Felton at some point down the line. I liked what I saw out of him in Summer Leagues thats for sure. Of course some of us hope that LB can maybe clean up Felton's game a bit and that could help out tremendously in the teams overall performance. Either way having 48 mpg of decent PG play will be a vast improvement over what we had last year with McMinus here.
We do love us some J Rich in last years draft though. Taking Noah and having more cap space wouldn't have been such a bad thing either imo.

For me, this is key.
After having to endure McMinus and the Midget, it's giong to get GREAT to have an actual PG sub in for Felts who is able to run the show.

Jason Richardson is a nice player, I don't think they got bad value for trading a lottery pick to get a borderline allstar talent. I think they missed a chance to draft a PF in Joakim Noah who would've really been a good match for the team and for Emeka Okafor at the defensive end.
With Richardson whom I feel is at his best when playing the SF position, I thought they traded a chance to draft a guy they needed to get a luxuary player considering Gerald Wallace's best position is also SF.
They can play them together with J-Rich at SG but I don't think that is his ideal position and I think to have a pair of wings who are both scorers/finishers and don't really create offense for other players is a bad idea for a team that doesn't have a great pointguard to set the table for everybody.
This has been solved in my opinion in part by drafting DJ Augustin so they have actual talent at the PG spot for 48 minutes. I still believe that Raymond Felton has the talent to be a quality starting PG in this league and honestly think other then maybe Lenny Wilkins that Larry Brown was the perfect hire to get him to play up to his talent.
I still think they'd have been better served drafting Brandon Roy over Adam Morrison which would've free'd them to draft Joakim Noah or Brandan Wright last year and then still draft a DJ Augustin this year.

Anybody who says J-Rich trade was poor obviously didn't see him play last season, where he beasted the SG spot and broke tons of team records and made the 4th most 3 pointers in NBA history in one season.
Of course we would have faired better drafting Roy, but Roy didn't want to play here. He refused workouts.

Wright was more Warriors' pick than ours, we were picking for them.
I'm glad that the trade happened. No regret. And his 3pt shooting last year was a nice bonus.

I said it in the context of how it was a bad move because they could've simply drafted Brandon Roy the year before and had a better player for far less money. That would've left them free to draft a Joakim Noah in the 2007 draft.
PG Felton/DJ
SG Roy/Carroll
SF Wallace/Dudley
PF Noah/Okafor
C Okafor/Muhammed
is better then
PG Felton/DJ
SG Richardson/Carroll/Felton
SF Wallace/Richardson/Dudley
PF Okafor/Wallace
C Muhammed/Okafor
Then throw in the money they would've had for free agents if not for J-Rich and the dead money that is Adam Morrison unless he has turned into a different player after an ACL injury and you might be talking about having a Varejao instead of Muhammed behind Okafor or any number of other better options.

Okafor and Noah up front would not work. Neither can score or shoot, they're both basically the same type of player. A nice compliment to Okafor would be Boozer.

Back to DJ though:
Nice that he is being noticed so early. Hope he can carry it over to the big show.

Boozer would, of course, but he's also way, way better. Noah can dribble, which makes him a little more interesting in that you can give him the ball away from the basket. Granted he still has to shoot within 5', but it's a little different from a purely low-block scorer like Emeka.
A rather better pairing, a guy who we might also conceivably be able to acquire, would be Brandon Bass (.493 on 2pt jumpers!).

From a thread on the Bucks' board. I think Woelfel is their version of Bonnell.

I suspected the Bucks were targeting DJ, and honestly I'm still not quite sure why they went ahead and took Alexander, especially since they traded for Dickie.

It might turn out ever worse for them if:
A) DJ can hold his own in the NBA, or even prove to be starter material
B) They trade Williams
C) Session is expected to start but can't handle it (although he has been impressive!!)
D) Joe Ears turns out to be a workout warrior but a bust in the NBA.
