Bring Back Walter Herrmann!!!

Post#1 » by fatlever » Wed Jul 30, 2008 4:50 pm

I just wanted to give this its own thread. We need to bring back the fabulous one, the bandit, el bandito, the one-armed bandit, fabio, before he bolts for europe never to be heard from again, well except the olympics (go team argentina).

so, higgins, if you are out there, undo the last of vincent's reign of horror and bring back herrmann. dont make me wear my herrmann jersey to every game as a silent protest.

Piston fan here. What about a deal like S&T Herrmann and Prince for G-Force and Morrison? I don't know if we can S&T Herrmann, but if we can, I'd seriously consider that deal.

Sounds great to me! I was so anxiously awaiting him seeing some good playing time last year and then Vincent happened.

HeroicKennedy why would the Cats do a S&T when they could just sign him outright?
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I believe Herrmann is restricted and we reserve the right to match any offer, I believe.

Edit: I guess he's unrestricted, though Herrmann's agent confirmed a deal is likely between the Pistons and Herrmann.

Crash is better than Prince
Ammo is better than Fabio

Where is the incentive for the Bobcats to do this?

That's a strange type of homerism, Slam.

Ammo has more upside than him i remember fabio getting playing time under vincent and he looked horrible. Plus his defense consist of him waiving his arms around all crazy larry brown would probably hate him he made our team look corny aswell  i'd pass.

I think Herrmann would be a solid 2nd team guy, instant offense, and I hope he would be coachable for defense. I'd like him back.

Plus, he's very easy to root for (given his history), and heck... "the claw." Remember "the claw," the one-armed bandito? That's pure fun right there.

are you ignoring the 2 months of fantastic ball he played at the end of 2006 under bernie? its not herrmann's fault vincent was a moron.

as for herrmann's defense, he plays some of the best ball denial defense on the team. that's the way they play defense in argentina. they play defense before their man gets the ball. all of team argentina is very sound fundamentally from top to bottom, that includeds herrmann.

strengths - deadly from the corner, ball denial defense, finishing, off-the-ball movement
weaknesses - passing, ball handling, lateral movement

The team actually did play better defense with Herrmann in 06-07, though basically anything from this season was completely horrible.

I agree ammo has more upside in the sense that there's nowhere to go but up, but Ammo's absolute theoretical peak is at this point probably worse than what Herrmann was at the end of 06-07. That's not to say Herrmann can possibly keep up that kind of pace, but if I could trade Ammo for Herrmann right now (which I know isn't necessary or possible), I would totally do it.

Not at all doc - especially considering my well known stance on Ammo.

Fact is that while Ammo has his draw backs, he can create his own shot, he has shown to have a very high BBIQ with some sweet, sweet passing and he does have a "swagger" to his game.

Fabio was REALLY good at denying the entry pass and playing really disciplined D. Problem was that if his man got the ball, they could burn past him because he has little lateral movement and isn't very athletic so he isn't a on ball or weak side shot blocker.

On offense Fabio was great at shooting from the corners, making weak side cuts (I think he has a high BBIQ) and man, who could forget "the claw"!!!

All in all I would be ok with him - but I think that Ammo has much more value considering his age and skill set.

If you wrote Ammo is going to be/ will be better than Fabio, I would say nothing. I would think it is too early to say that but I would hope you're right (because that would mean he will improve by a big margin). Sorry, I can't remember your stance about Ammo - he haven't been discussed for a quite long time so I forgot. But saying Fabio is worse than Ammo (right now) it's ridiculous imho. That's nothing against Ammo, I hope he'll continue improving like - we saw a glimpse of it just before the injury. I would definitelly rather have him than May (and that's ridiculous statement for some members of this board, I'm sure of .) ).

Doc, I agree on having Ammo much more than May. While I doubt Ammo ever defends like a pro player, he has the potential to light up the night on offense! May reached his top side early on, and it wasn;t all that great, especially on D.

So many folks don't look at defense relative to players evaluated or proposed. Slam is right...Fabio's defense on the perimeter or on his man was OLE' and ADIOS! He also is not considerable rebounder at the 4 spot.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

His offseason is pretty busy... it's the only time he has set aside for the smutty novel covers.

A Spanish newspaper interviewed Herrmann, and supposedly he said he signed a contract to stay with the Pistons.

Sorry, guys.
