League Pass clock soon to start ticking...

Post#1 » by Bassman » Fri Sep 5, 2008 7:01 pm

For all Bobcats fans who live outside the "home" market as I do, how willing are you to sign up for this season? :hoop:

Last year I was adament that I would not sign up for the pass unless the Cats got a PF. I posted that here and waited...and waited...watched the free stuff through pre-season, was tempted...and waited. Finally the last day came for the deal package. I stood my ground and said no. My guess was that without a starting PF, and with the injury to Ammo the team would struggle even with J-Rich. I was still able to see a number of games via other TV's with the pass, and gradually grew to appreciate my decision. Bad coach, bad team, bad year.

Here we are again, a new season, training camp looming, and the same problem...NO STARTER AT THE 4. :onfire: But J-Rich is going to be awesome to watch, Ammo might contribute, McMay might break his record for games in a season (just before he goes down again), Dj will be interesting, and Larry B might win a few games out of the timeout. It's very tempting, but I still wonder....

It's not the money, although $190 is not chump change. You will say "HOW CAN YOU BE A FAN AND NOT PUT DOWN THE COST OF ONE BOWL TICKET AND ONE 2ND TIER SEAT FOR A WHOLE SEASON???" I get that and understand it. I just feel it's the only power I can wield to influence the Cats to get the guy we need to make the playoffs.

OK BOBCATS. ONCE AGAIN I'M THROWING DOWN THE GAUNTLET. GET US A STARTING-LEVEL POWER FORWARD OR I WILL NOT BUY THE LEAGUE PASS!! :vent:

Let the nervous pacing in the front office begin....
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I wouldn't even consider not getting League Pass.

That being said, depending on your provider FoxSportsSouth is supposed to be carrying a lot of their games. Here in Raleigh because of TWC I have doubts that FSS will unblock them...they didn't at the end of last season.

League pass is a great thing. New PF or not, I would get it.

League Pass costs $30 a month up here.

No way in the world could I do without it.

I mean, heck, if I didn't have League Pass I might spend my whole life thinking that Joe Alexander is black or Anthony Randolph is the fattest man on Earth!!

Not getting League Pass as a protest against the Cats not having a starting PF is REALLY silly. League Pass is money for the league, not just the Bobcats. While I've read and heard about how thrifty Bob Johnson is, I'm kinda thinking he's no so hard up that your denial of $6.34 is going to accomplish anything.

Spend the cash if you're an NBA fan. If you only follow the Bobcats, I'd see no reason to not save money and do what you did last year.

Guys, it's the only leverage I have!!

Please note the tounge firmly in cheek comment at the end of my post.

Last year my bet was a good one (relative to the results) but this season has too much potential even if they don't make the playoffs to miss these games. I will still wait until the deadline to be sure the investment meter is in the green, but PF or not I'll probably get it.

I've got the NFL ticket to watch my beloved Panthers, so don't think I'm too cheap!

We've upgraded at backup pg and enhanced our depth in general, but the only major differences from the upcoming season from the previous one are that teams that are supposed to be worse than us AND better than us got better this offseason, which we're combatting with a huge coaching upgrade.

PF is still a gaping hole, so if that's the standard for a league pass purchase I don't see how this season has more potential for overcoming that than last.

I get league pass every year but it has nothing to do with the cats. Honestly if all I could do was watch Bobcats games I might go a little coo coo.

Through Time Warner?

Has anyone ordered it here? -- And if so, are games available in HD, or is that seperate?

Big Slam lives in Canada so I'm pretty sure he doesn't have TWC.

Last time I was with TWC i got no league pass games in HD. Not so with DirecTV which has tons of HD games. They could have added some HD games in the last few years but I highly doubt it knowing how they operate.

TWC shows a game on UHD that's High Def, like once or twice a week. Don't think it has anything to do with League Pass though, it's normally the NBATV game.

I, for one, am too cheap for league pass, and I'm really not happy about missing the whole season. But c'est la vie.

i've been a league pass guy since 2000 and i aint stopping this year. like chabber, its not about the cats. between going to live games and seeing them on local tv there's only a handful of times per year i have to use league pass to watch the cats. but i could never live with being subjected to espn and tnt for my only nba coverage outside of the cats. i have no interest is seeing miami play 30 games.

this year i will be watching:

warriors
sonics (i'm not ready to accept the thunder)
raptors
kings
bulls
wizards
sixers
knicks

j/k -- but, for those with league pass here in Charlotte getting it through TWC, do they offer HD games, as well? or are we stuck watching them in SD?

Where in Canada do you reside, BS?

I'd guess what Walt said is the case so no HD games besides the regular NBATV games. He lives in Raleigh but the service isn't going to be any different here than there.

I've been getting League Pass the last few years, but since the advent of HD I've gotten more and more frustrated with the poor quality of the games shown there. It's pretty awful.

So this year I'm thinking I'll pass on the Pass and wait for the upgrade.

Bball in HD on other channels like TNT is truly incredible.

That is the great mystery for me..the quality of the games themselves. I would receive the pass via DirecTV. I've got to believe all the Bobcats games are in standard definition (those I saw last year were not in HD). Is that the case with all their broadcasts? Seems a shame with the "all digital" requirement set to go into effect early next year that they wouldn't provide HD. I guess those cameras are just too expensive.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
