Interest in Ike Diogu???

Post#1 » by Butter » Sun Oct 26, 2008 6:51 pm

I don't really follow the Bobcats, but after noticing the Wiretap headline about May, I'm wondering if the Bobcats would be interested in Ike Diogu? I don't think the price tag would be that high. Maybe a future draft pick?

He showed a lot of promise as a rookie, and at times with spot minutes with the Pacers. The Blazers are just overloaded with PFs. What kind of offer would the Bobcats come up with?

You want Sean May?

Ike didn't do much in preseason, which makes me think that hes only still a Blazer because of his contract and youth. They don't really expect anything out of him, they are just hanging onto him waiting for some team to get desperate enough.

So Sean May and Ryan Hollins for Ike Diogu. Thats the offer I would put up. Hollins gives the Blazers a young Center and then two bust PFs are swapped out.

May could actually flourish alongside Oden, but you would have to get motivated.

For the Bobcats, A-N-Y-O-N-E seems better then May at this point for this team. Its time to move on.

I'd be interested in Ike, but I wouldn't give up much. Hollins, Jamareo, 2nd round pick, that's about it. Ike won't see the court in Portland anyway. Maybe we help them trim their roster by taking on Ike who has a guaranteed contract in exchange for a 2nd?

Yes, Diogu would be welcome, and it would be great to send May and Hollins packing. Not sure if that's what Portland wants....heck, what could they want with all that talent? My guess is a quality veteran to provide leadership.

Can we trade Hollins?

May for Diogu works straight up, but why would Portland do that? Would NOLA's 2nd be enough of an incentive? It wouldn't if I were them as they're loaded with young guys.

The Blazers can't take on two players for Diogu. They already have 15 players on their roster. I was thinking something really simply, like Diogu for a draft pick.

OK, so here's a dumb question. Can teams do a trade for a conditional draft pick like in the NFL? For example, if Ike warms the bench, the Blazers get a 2nd. But if he starts all season and has a solid impact, they get a protected first?

Ike needs to stay healthy...and get minutes. Once that happens he will be a real good player,a bit better than a healthy May. Ike has played around 255,will be better at around 245-250 and probably will be more durable. His skill is he's able to score in quantity in the paint..yet pop a 20 ft J too. Teams that want him to just fill in at C for 3 min and set picks are not using his best stuff.

Port has 4 rd 2 picks. Another Rd 2 won't mean much.

Felton for Blake-Diogu-and 2 rd 2 picks?

Knicks have till 6:00 to reduce roster from 16 to 15. They may have to cut Ewing, Jr. I know he's young, but he has strengths that Hollins doesn't at PF. If he gets cut, I'd eat Hollin's contract and try to get Ewing. I loved his toughness and intensity at Georgetown! Not a Veteran PF like we truly want, but he has potential and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg in trade.

Here's the link on where I read the Ewing, Jr. stuff. I really think he'd be a good pick up if the Knicks are forced to let him go.

We need someone with more experience to come to the front court. Not an old waste like Othella or something, but an up and comer or at least solid vet.

Didn't Denver cut Nick Fazekas? He can't possibly be worse than our other pf options.

If you accept Higgins at his word, he was quoted as saying no move will happen unless it makes a significant difference for the team. I read that as saying 2 things:

A - Only a SURPRISE, MAJOR PF being waived will move the Cats to pick up a player and cast aside a guaranteed contract.

B - Only a significant trade is likely to be executed to aquire a PF. Since those don't happen often, and few are ever done at this point of the season, we can only hope for relief at the trade deadline (which by then our playoff chances will also be dead).

I think they give Brown the chance to start alongside EO50, and bring Frenchie off the bench to rotate between the 4 and 5. May is bad and probably toast by now in LB's view. I wonder if Tarheel connections led LB to give May more consideration going into the preseason than was warranted. At least coach shoots straight about McMay's status.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

OK! Knicks cut Ewing, Jr. Let's get him. Desire, intensity, and good genes. He's the kind of player that 3 years from now people will say "why didn't we grab him?'" He has the potetial to be a quality PF in this league. Eat a Contract and sign him!

Why? He's no better - in fact, probably worse, than A.Brown.

A move like this just smacks of desperation and making a move just for the sake of making a move.

I'm sorry to disagree. I just think that with Ewing Jr. on the bench rather than Hollins, we are better for it. I don't mean to imply he'd be an All-Star, but I think he'll be a very good productive off the bench player. He's not THE answer to our PF problem, but he improves us, in my opinion.

Nick Fazekas- Hes kind of immobile for a big man. Bobcats need someone like an effective Steven Hunter (i'm aiming low at this point). Nick wouldn't be the worst, but I think hes a few years away from being an effective 12-15 minute guy.

Patrick Ewing JR- The Bobcats need another project big like the Knicks need another expensive dud. JR could very well become a solid backup, but the Bobcats need to add someone to help them now...unless of course they've already given up on the season.
-If Memphis has any common sense, they would put a waiver claim on him. Same is true for the Hawks.

Some might hate this, but it would've been nice if David Harrison had been able to player for the Timberwolves...say what you want, but there is one hell of a player under all that crazy mess. Larry Brown is the type of guy who could've harnessed that.

I actually agree with you on Harrison, he could be a good player in the right situation - kinda like Charlie V.
