Nov 1st Hammers: Bobcats Vs Heat

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Sun Nov 2, 2008 1:44 am

Gold: Crash
He was every where, he played within himself and the team and it resulted in a huge game for him and the team

Silver: EO50
Played pretty physically, presented well, ran the court well and fought hard for boards.

Bronze: Swish
Scored at will. Didn't fill up the stat sheet, but what he did do was play really good D on Wade.

It's good to have that winning feeling!! I didn't realize just how much I had missed it!!

Gold - Crash
Silver - Swish
Bronze - Mek

I'm giving Swish the nod for Silver for exactly what you said about his D on Flash Slam. My vision wasn't very good, but I distinctly remember at least twice where he stopped Flash's drive and forced a deep shot (which missed). Swish with above average D makes us oh so much stronger.

Crash was just amazing!

Loving the win!!!!

I'm torn between Silver and Bronze, but eh. I'll go with Okafor over JRich.

Same as above.

Gold - Wallace (duh)
Silver - Richardson (I can't say I really scouted his D, but both Wade and Cook had bad shooting which was good, and JRich scored himself quite well).
Bronze - Okafor (Thought about giving him the silver because those rebounds were big, but we got abused inside by bad players so I can't give him too much credit)

Really? I'd be interested to see the point in the paint. To me it didn't seem like they scored on the inside much at all. All the damage done by Haslem and Beasley was done from 12+ feet out.

Gold - Wallace, no brainer
Silver - Mek, I was going to put Felton, but I checked the box score and saw he had 13 boards. I knew he had a lot, but I didn't realize it was that many. He seemed to have a little extra giddyup tonight and outside of the FTs, i was very impressed.
Bronze - Felton. JRich could've gone here, so could Dudley who always seems to be in the right spot. Felton gets my vote because it all ran thru him. He settled them down when they needed it. He passed on wide open looks to make an extra pace and make the Heat defense work. He splits double teams and played very physical (maybe a little too much) defense.

Crash
Mek
J-Rich

Very good game all around...we let the Heat have easy shots, though, the score was much closer than it should have been.

Slam:
You're right, on further review. Beasley scored inside some, but Haslem was all jumpers. I guess it's just another example of the quick PF killing Emeka, not a lack of interior defense. I guess our interior D ended up okay... seemed like mostly the plan was to pack the middle and make them shoot Js, which worked out in the end.

??

EO50's running mate was the 6'7" Jared Dudely. If EO50 goes out to 12+ feet from the rim to chase Haslem, who is going to be back in the paint to protect the rim?

It was n't EO50's that Haslem shot the mid range J so well last night. It the other players fault for not recognizing what was going on and not switching/rotating to cover it.

I think you are being awfully hard on EO50.

Haslem got a lot of those jumpers after the 'cats doubled and then scrambled back. This wasn't a function of Mek getting "out quicked" but more the Heat finding an open guy during defensive rotations (which we still need work on)

My vote as well, couldn't have said it better.

Okafor was strong and powerful down low. Swish was doing a LOT last night...creating offense, delivering offense, playing tough D. Not much standing around by J-Rich on D anymore.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Well it's somebody's fault if Haslem, who everyone knows can shoot a midrange J, gets to shoot wide-open midrange J's. If we were playing zone all night, then sure, Emeka should just have stayed at home and I guess it's someone else's job to put a hand in Haslem's face. But if Dudley's job was to mark Beasley, and Emeka's Haslem... he has to leave the basket area.

Obviously Emeka gave as good as he got, I'm just saying that this is evidence that he and Haslem don't play the same position... Emeka can't chase Haslem, Haslem can't guard Emeka.

regarding haslems jumpers... from what i could tell our entire defensive philosophy last night was to cut off all penetration into the lane and force the heat to make jumpers. anytime somebody tried to drive 2 or 3 cats would leave their man to help cut off the drive. this resulted in many open baseline looks for beasley and haslem. i loved the fact that our defense took away the drives (mostly) and turned their offense into nothing but jumpshots for their pf and center.

I guess it was a pretty good strategy... shut down the middle because the Heat don't have the shooters to make you pay. Haslem and Beasley were probably thrilled, but without Wade there just isn't anybody else to score. Ironically even a role player gunner like Kapono or Boobie or something would have ruined our strategy totally... the Heat might be in for a long season.
