Okafor for Kaman

Post#1 » by coordinator0 » Sat Nov 15, 2008 9:09 pm

I would like the Bobcats to at least attempt a trade for Kaman, even if Dunleavy said they didn;t want any of our players. I'm sure that he would change his opinion if we dagled a package based on Okafor was offered. I'm pretty sure the salaries would match up, but we might have to wait until after Dec. 15 or until next season, that part is a little unclear to me. What do you guys think?

Oh yeah, lets keep Felton and Wallace. Maybe even re-sign Felton after the season, if the money is right.

I'm not sure Kaman is any better than Okafor, and therefore I don't see how this helps our team. In fact, they're strikingly similar... they're both 26, they rebound almost identically, they are both talented shot blockers, they occupy a similar role in the offense (that is to say, fairly limited but they score effeciently). The biggest difference is that Kaman is a better passer, but also turns it over more.

Also, Okafor's 06-07 remains by far the best season in both of their careers, so we'd actually be losing some upside here.

Kaman is bigger, and plays with more tenacity. As we have seen, a big man with no fight in him isn't helping his team out much. Plus Kaman is from my home state. That makes a world of difference. :D

Can't argue with that. I like Kaman, but this team would probably be in exactly the same place with him as with Okafor. Also he doesn't come cheap.

Yup. We can only take back half of Mek's salary in trade for 1 year. Unless we're dealing with a team under the cap it's not going to happen.

We did inquire after Kaman though, according to Dunleavy. Most likely we were offering Crash and LAC is pretty hot on Thornton. They'd be wanting a PF back in trade most likely.

I wish Sam Smith would know something about BYC.

Sam reports that the Bobcats' offer of Okafur was not considered sufficient by the Clippers. However, that obviously could not have been the offer since salaries would not match.

It's too bad we couldn't get Marcus Camby instead.

Yeah, that did kind of suck a bit.

Last year Kurt Thomas gets traded WITH two 1st round picks for a 2nd round pick. This year Marcus Camby for A 2nd round pick.

Cap space and 2nd round picks could've gone far in solving this teams front court issue.
