Season Ticket holders, any sport

I've been a season ticket holder (105 I) for a little while now and in a situation where I have more seats than I want (long story). In the past, I've been able to syndicate out just about all of them. This year, with the economy and general fan apathy, I am taking a bath. It doesn't help that the team is having promotions like $75 Ruth's Chris gift cards, bring your Panther stub and its buy 1 get 1 free, etc.
I realize the team is doing everything they can to get butts in the seats. I am actually glad to see them doing it. However, the question I pose to the group is: does management owe anything to season ticket holders (any sport) if they are slashing prices or giving out SWAG thus killing any ability to sell tickets at or near face?
Again, I'm not angry, just a little annoyed. I'll be angry next year, the last year of my contract. All I get is a warmup shirt (and I haven't even gotten it yet!!) The dis-incentive to buy season tickets is HUGE. Part of me feels like I should be getting a Ruth's Chris meal for each seat I own for each game on a M-W.
Thoughts?

Bobcats treat season ticket holders like garbage. They've got your money, that's all they care about.

i think you make a valid point ffp, but really, what would you expect them to do? give you back 10%? maybe they should provide a discount for next season's tickets?
why did you end up with more seats than you wanted?
they are having some fantastic promotions right now. i dont see how anyone could get a fair deal selling tix. there is no demand. that arena was EMPTY last night. and it looks a lot worse when you sit upstairs.
of course, i cant really say much, my season tickets are worth 5 bucks a ticket and i only have 2 seats. its not a big deal if i cant make it to a game and when i do i usually give the tickets away or flush them. i'll probably go to 20-25 games this year.
i've been to 5 games and i have yet to have anyone sit directly next to me, in front of me or behind me. that's sad. i know that section is sold out (all season tix), but they dont come. in fact, in the 3 years i've had my tix i'd say the seats next to me have been occupied maybe 10 times and never by the same person.
oh yeah, i have not received my shooting shirt either.

I don't really expect anything. Maybe free upgrades to better seats if they are available? Free access to the Back Court? I don't know. I'm going to talk to my ticket guy and express my annoyance, but wanted to see what the views here were to gauge how annoyed I should be.
My boss had 4 tix and I'd use 2 of them and he'd wear all the syndication risk. He got canned about 2 years ago and asked if I'd pick them up for him since he was out of work. This was before last season and I was really excited, so, I figured sure. I didn't think there'd be much of a risk. Silly me. I didn't envision the Sam Vincent debacle, the Bob Johnson lesson on how to pi** off a city and a financial calamity.
Long and short of it, I'm on the hook thru next year and that's fine. I'm just trying to figure out if I have an implied right to get the 'Cats to share in my pain. Not via rebate but via increased service and maybe a goodie here and there. Is it too much to ask Linsey to sit with me for a game? That's a fair request, isn't it? Now that would be increased service.

why do some of the seats have to be renewed every few years instead of every year? are the expensive seats all on a 3 year contract?

i guess that explains why my company still has their season tickets. assuming this is year 3, i doubt we will have season tix next year. oh well, no biggie. i've only scored those tix twice in 3 years. i think they go to waste half the time. shame. those things are 135 face value.

I would be FURIOUS if I bought season tickets then found out they were offering all of these "deals" once the season began. However, it is buyer beware but I would still complain LOUDLY and let them know you will cancel your tickets unless you get an upgrade.
What I cannot understand is how in the hell can the Bobcats charge such ridiculous prices when the team SUCKS and they haven't won jack since they entered the league. Where do they get off charging these prices?!?!? Ummmm isn't it supposed to be that supply and demand should dictate the market???
Aside from the ridiculous ticket prices, how the hell can they start these games at 7pm??? People do work!! Hmmm it's no wonder they can't draw flies, they cater to fans who do not work!!!
Oh and I'll gladly take some tickets off your hands for a dollar if you aren't using them.

According to
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/article/116348, the Bobcats had the second-lowest ticket prices in the league last year, one of only two teams to have an average ticket price below $30. Their Fan Cost Index (average cost for a family to attend a game) was 3rd lowest in the league.
Ummmm isn't it supposed to be that supply and demand should dictate the market???
They should look into variable pricing, like some other professional teams have tried. Would you prefer to buy a ticket for $15 against the Kings on a weekday, while having to pay $50 for that same ticket against the Lakers on a Saturday night? I'm guessing not, since people would just complain about that, too. But if you are suggesting that the prices should be dictated by supply and demand, that's what they should try.

PS - for people complaining about parking costs, this article says that the Bobcats have the cheapest parking in the league:

if people are complaining about parking then it just means they dont have a clue about charlotte or where to park. i always pay 5 bucks to park, a block from the arena. getting in and out of games takes about 2 minutes. its lightyears better than the old arena which would take upwards of 30 minutes to get out on a busy night.

FFP, did you have something to do with the letter sent to season ticker holders today?
doesnt really help you much since you already have great seats... and more than you need, but for me, hey, i can go to a game in the fancy seats.
Also, it sounds like they are about to unleash some serious ticket deals.
As a Bobcats Season Ticket Holder, you are more to us than just a customer or an account. You’re our biggest fans, our best ambassadors and our biggest investors. With your support, the opportunities for this franchise to grow and achieve greatness are limitless. Without your support, we simply cannot reach the level of success this team is capable of reaching. In short – you matter to us, and every decision we make in some way reflects our commitment to making your experience with the Bobcats the best it can be.
Part of providing you with a great experience at Time Warner Cable Arena is doing everything we can to fill the building with fans. A recent survey of Season Ticket Holders indicates pretty clearly that you agree with the idea that a full building is a far more entertaining environment in which to watch a game, and that you also support discounting single game tickets as long as they don’t diminish the integrity of the long-term investment you have made as a Season Ticket Holder. With those principles in mind guiding our decision-making process, we would like to take this moment to unveil a new strategy to help stimulate single game ticket sales, improve our attendance, enliven the atmosphere and experience at Time Warner Cable Arena, and enhance your investment as a Season Ticket Holder.
Starting on Monday, you are going to see a number of single game discount offers made available to the general public with the aim of selling more tickets and giving more people the opportunity to experience all the things you enjoy 41 nights per year. These offers are strategic in their goals and projections, and ever-mindful of one important and immutable law: no offer will ever undercut the value you receive as a full Season Ticket Holder.
Through our “Holiday Ticket Sale” that begins at 10:00 a.m. on November 24, the general public will have one week to purchase single game tickets for all games between that evening’s contest with the Philadelphia 76’ers and the January 21 matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies at discounts of 10% to 50% off the full single game rate. Tickets are limited to lower level non-premium and upper-level seats, and are only available through bobcats.com or the Time Warner Cable Arena box office.
We want this sale to do well and bring a lot of potential mini-plan buyers and future Season Ticket Holders to the arena – many for the first time. But we also want to do more than just protect the value of your season tickets as we make this offer to the general public, so we’ve come up with a unique plan to make an enhanced version of the above sale available exclusively to Season Ticket Holders.
As of today, we have deposited a “Ticket Stimulus Credit” directly into your MyBobcatsAccount of anywhere from $250 to $1,000 depending on the amount of your season ticket investment. This credit can be used to buy additional single game tickets for any game the rest of this regular season at prices 10% to 50% off the already-discounted season ticket price you pay, in any section of the arena where availability exists. If you’re a club seat holder and need additional tickets for the Boston or Lakers game, this is your break. If you’re a Season Ticket Holder in the upper bowl and have always wondered what it would be like to sit in club seats, this is your opportunity. You have until our final regular season game, April 7 against Philadelphia , to use the credit in your account towards the purchase of single game tickets, and the credit can only be used for that purpose. But between the credit and additional discount, you should be able to enjoy an upgrade for yourself or be the hero for your friends and family who want to see the big games this season as your guest. To redeem your credit for single game tickets, please contact your personal account manager directly.
Filling Time Warner Cable Arena with fans is important to all of us. Protecting your investment and enhancing the benefits you receive as a Season Ticket Holder is even more important, and we believe that this Ticket Stimulus Package will help us do both. If you have any questions or comments about the package, please let us know.
Thank you for your support of the Charlotte Bobcats. We’re doing everything we can to earn it, and we hope doing things that make you proud to be a Bobcats Season Ticket Holder.

Well that letter does nothing for me. I can't use all of the tickets I have, and struggle to sell them at 50% value for games I can't go to. Why on heaven's earth would I buy more?
LOL FFP; I've got 2 lower level tix 104 B on a contract that expires after next year too. Maybe we can buddy up and share a years worth after that? I hate to give up these seats, but man the PRICE; THE PRICE!

Row B? Nice. I had A2 until two years ago but that price tag is brutal. I agree, I absolutely love my seats but unless I can syndicate the excess, it's brutal. Your tickets must be near the Hunton&Williams crew.
It's funny they sent that out today. Below is an email I sent them on Tues morning. I am going to try and fight to get the credit applied to next season. That would be meaningful.
I bumped into a buddy of mine who has 2 tix and lives out of town. He was telling me that he gets upgraded for most games (he sat on the floor 5 seats away from Peppers for the Jazz game) and the he got the season ticket SWAG for each seat he owns. I bumped into another buddy who has 4 seats under the visitors basket who mentioned similar added benefits. Given that the 'Cats are offering all these promotions (Ruth's Chris, buy one get one free, I think there is a gun show promo this weekend) and basically making it impossible to sell my excess tickets anywhere near face, if at all, I am becoming more and more frustrated. I think that frustration is justified. If you buy something one day and find it on major sale the next, that's pretty frustrating, right? My even bigger concern is next year. The economy and the teams play won't exactly make it easy for me to syndicate next year so the pain will be even worse.
I don't like to whine like this, but given the $[ ] hit I'm taking this year and likely bigger hit next year, I guess I'd like to fully understand my options to at least let me feel better about pissing away [x] of dollars while worrying about getting fired every day. For example, are there options for shrinking from 4 to 2 seats for the final year of my contract? Are upgrades reasonable to expect? Whatother "fun" stuff am I missing? I know that I was offered some interesting opportunities earlier this year, however, weekdays are next to impossible for most folks that work, and I am pretty sure the team knows that.
I got a call from my ticket reps boss but never heard back from her. The lack of follow up is pretty amazing.

yeah, i dont see how that promotion does anything for people who already have good seats in the lower bowl.
why not apply the credit to next year, like you said.
it is a nice gesture and a step in the right direction, but still missing the mark a bit.

I say it is not a good idea for you to get season tickets since there are so many sources to get cheaper tickets now.
Only good when your team is good. Move to LA and their Lakers tickets are crazy.
