Power Forward Vs Shooting Guard

We have yapped on and on for a while now about needing the right PF on this team, but ever since Jesus played centre for Jerusalem we have said we needed a shooting guard who has size, can handle the rock, play D and create offense for others as well as himself.

Looking at tonight we played better on offense when Felts and DJ were in together because if one got into trouble because there was no one to pass to, the other was there to bail them out and take over the dribble for a re-set and different look.

So while a smooth, athletic, defensive PF with range would be nice, do we not still have a serious need for an off guard to help out the cause?

Plus, wouldn't that off guard be a lot easier to find and still have an important impact than the unicorn than it is to find our perfect PF?

Let's do Odom for Wallace and look for a wing that can make plays OR resign Odom to deal around MLE (or whatever the market sets for his value) and offer Childress a deal with the savings. He can opt out after any of the 3 olympiacos seasons, yea?

I'm feeling ya on that one! This team breaks my heart. I love them, pull for them, cant stand the fact that we are put together so badly, want to make changes to personnel to improve us, but hate to see amyone of consequence leave via trade. By the way, Lopez was 14 pts 6 reb tonight. Not great, but damnit we can use it. Well, I'll drop that issue for the night.

Yea, Lopez is good. As hard as it is to find decent bigs in the league, it's just as hard to find special pgs. DJ is looking like one of those right now.

Agreed! DJ is starting to show what LB saw in him. Maturity will lead to better decisions and more assists, but dad gum tht kid has a high ceiling. Now, if he can only get close to it!

What are you guys talking about? This isn't even a close one. We need a PF. Our best player is our SG. A guy by the name of Jason Richardson. Just because he missed a few games doesn't mean he's gone.

Tha't what I'm saying lol. If we do trade Wallace, I could see J-Rich moving to SF and starting over Ammo. I don't think that Ammo would start at SG either, he's just not athletic enough.

As for your question Big Slam, I would have to say that SG is our bigger need right now. We have Jinx and If we go out and sign another big to a long term deal, Jinx would play even less than he is now. I don't believe that he is a C either, unless he really bulks up. The Bobcats should see how Jinx develops for a year or two, then make their decision on whether or not to give up on him. I really like Jinx, and hope he pans out.

What about Shannon Brown starting at the 2 guard?

In a perfect world I'd like him at the 3 and someone like JJ, Roy, Iggy etc at the 2. I think Swish can play the 2 well, but I think he would excel at the 3 with more of a creator at the 2 - as would everyone else.

In a way, this sort of illustrates what I had written last night:
“I was confused about what (Brown) wanted me to do (before) but I wasn’t thinking about that tonight,’’ Augustin said. “And I knew I had Raymond. If I got trapped (by the defense), he was there for me.’’

Our biggest need is most definitely a power forward but I agree with BigSlam in that we could use another shooting guard. Especially if DJ is playing point, a 2 that could defend would be real beneficial. Plus it would also be nice to have someone to create for others outside of our point guard. I'd love a 2 for 1 deal by trading 3 for a quality 2 & 4 and sliding 23 to the 3.

I think you guys have lost it. What happened to us having too many wing players?

The suggestion that we need another SG is one step below blowing the team up and starting over. If only Donnie Walsh was our GM...

i'm w/ you slam. i'd much rather see jrich as sf paired with a sg who can handle, defend and create.

unless you have steve nash, chris paul, deron williams or jose calderon running your offense you must have a guard/wing who can handle and create to be a playoff level team in this league.

lakers = kobe and odom
celtics = pierce
spurs = manu
cavs = lebron
heat = wade
blazers = roy
hawks = jj
rockets = mcgrady
wiz = arenas, butler
clips = baron (not a winning team but...)
pistons = iverson

you have to have a player who can get you easy shots at the end of games. we've never had that player.

hopefully dj can develop into the the type of pg that can get us easy baskets at the end of games, like paul, nash, deron and jose can do for their teams.

This team could always use another SG. The problem is that this team has always needed A PF.

I mean honestly eliminate Okafor and Wallace, and who is this teams all time best PF?
Melvin Ely, Sean May, or Walter Hermann?

Sad, isn't it.
Also, normally I hate to do this but;
Sean May was taken over the following; Hakim Warrick, Linas Kleiza, Jason Maxiell, David Lee, Brandon Bass, and Ronny Turaif. Those are just the guys who mostly play PF.

At some point this team is going to have to realize that its not always about getting the PERFECT one, its sometimes just about getting one.

One more thing. Last year Primoz Brezec started 18 out of 20 games early in the season. Sean May has 4 out of 6. Of course Primoz was playing every game, but that still is a major issue.

Slam linked this, so here's a bump up, because I think it's definitely a relevant discussion with the possible Jrich for Kaman trade.

I'm going to do some research later and make a list of wings that can create for others that may be available. For now, I think it's totally fair to suggest that both Ray and DJ operate best with another player on the floor that can defend, handle and create for others. Those players are at a premium though, so I expect the list to be quite small.

Why wouldn't a point/forward work? A smart big man who can pass out in the post?

IMO a Jamison or Odom would do wonders with this team, not only because they can guard those athletic 4s but also because they will make the smart pass. Shaq from a couple of years back, not only because of his dominance inside but because he "sees" the cutters and open guys and will make that pass.

Just having Swish at the 2 doesn't automatically doom this lineup.
