I keep reading how it is hard to trade Hammer because of how bad his contract is. So I started to look at other teams backup SG/SF contracts and was floored. I actually think Hammer's contract isn't that bad.

why is maggette on the list? and terry is essentially a starter.

anyway. some of those players would be very hard to trade given their contracts (kapono, jefferies, simmons, jaric, stackhouse, hughes, claxton). overpaying for bench players is all too common, but it doesnt make carroll's contract justifyable. you sign players like carroll to a contract like that when you have all the other pieces and you are simply missing a shooter. you dont sign guys like carroll to 5/25 when you are building for the future. in hindsight, just another poor decision by FO.

I think Maggette is now on the bench (Crawford starts at the 2 and Jackson at the 3) and Terry is the 6th man for Dallas.

thats why i said "essentially the starter". terry plays 35 mpg. and even if maggette comes of the bench, he too, plays 35mpg and is "essentially a starter" both those guys are in a class with players like jrich, not carroll.

Carroll's contract is hard to trade because of its length. With up to 20 teams angling for max cap space for the 2010 free agency bonanza, there are very few teams who will want players who extend beyond 2010.

Also, you're posting mostly guys who signed to longer deals from 2 or more years ago. Over the last 1-2 years, deals have been getting smaller in size, and in length, for bench players. For example, a traditionally-overspending MIN's 2008 signings were Gomes $3.65, Craig Smith $2.3, and Telfair $2.5, and all but Telfair have team options for 2010. The market has changed, and if teams aren't signing guys for Carroll-money, they sure aren't looking to trade for them.

good point about 2010, did not consider that, that makes alot of sence.

The only guys I listed that signed before Carroll are Hughes, Claxton, Terry, Stackhouse, and maybe Daniels and Jefferies. Everyone else signed the same year or this past year.

Ok if they don't like carrolls contract, trade wallace, but do something? I thought for sure that NJ nets would trade Hassell/ Williams for Carroll/fillin or make a counter offer. They are loaded at the 4 and we need a 4 Starter. They need a shooter. Maybe they are waiting on 12-15-08 Hollins contract restriction to throw him in? If no How about Nazr?
