I asked, or rather made a statement to Hollinger during his chat today since he was the only "expert" during the preseason to predict Charlotte to grab the 8th seed. Here is what he said.

" Jason (Asheville NC): You are going to look like a genius when Charlotte nabs the 8th seed.

John Hollinger: (4:04 PM ET ) you are going to look like a crack addict when I post this comment.

John Hollinger: (4:05 PM ET ) Yes, the Cats have played better since the trade and Larry's start-slow finish-fast pattern has to be reckoned with, but I believe there's too much ground to make up, too many teams to pass, and not enough bench support for the Bobs to make my preseason pick come true. "

Haha, guess im a crack addict.

lol, we're not grabbing the 8th seed this year. I hope we do, but I doubt it. We will be at around the same spot we were last year, I just hope we land a top 3 pick this time.

lol, at first glance after rading his response I was offended. Then laughed, and shrugged it off.

Gotta keep some faith though! 3.5 games back out of the 8th seed. Only problem is we have to jump over 4 or 5 teams. Probably a 10% chance of that happening, but who knows at this point in time.

To make the strides it would require to get into the playoffs we would need to aquire a significant player in a trade that didn't subtract major damage from our team, AND mesh that player(s) into the mix so fast we only got better, faster.

Not gonna happen.

We are beating poor to below average teams with the random "surprise upset" of a good team in the mix. I do believe we will improve slowly, in bits and pieces, but using the same players throughout the season we have today, the progress will be marginal at best. It takes a long time to develop even very good players into a team that gets to the playoffs, much less wins a series. This group shows sparks, but no sustained burn.

Well he is right about how our bench has been, but Juwan has started giving us some good offense lately, and DJ will be back soon. We're at .500 ball since the trade and should have picked up a couple more wins above that. I think we can prove him wrong (or right!), but we can't waste any more time.
