Get Batum from Portland

Post#1 » by ohara » Thu Jan 15, 2009 9:19 pm

I just had a thought. What if we acquire Batum from Portland? That would give us 3 fine Frenchman on the team, 20% of the players. Our Bobcat paraphernalia would sell through the roof! Bob and MJ could work a deal for Bobcat games to be shown in France on French TV. All the NBA fans there would love the Bobcats and Bob and MJ rake in $ from the TV rights and marketing. Everyone there would buy only Bobcat stuff as a matter of pride. Then, Bob and MJ have enough money to also allow us to spend on the FA's we want. And our international pull would be strong and we would draw a large fan base, and have a large international quality to RGM's Charlotte Bobcats board. I like this idea, even if I did come up with it!

Would it be funny or painful if it were easier to watch a game in Paris than in Raleigh?

It would be rather humorous to me, because I think it might actually be easier right now for that to occur.

The games would be scheduled earlier in the day, no freaking streams anymore and everyone would speak french on the board. I can't wait!

Ah ah , I like the idea...I am watching every match of the Cats since the trade of Boris..(I am french)...Charlotte is also sounding so french ;)

Anyway, I am sure Portland will never let Nicolas Batum go and Nicolas already stated on the french TV that he would root for the Spurs before any other team.

Ohh and guys, wait for the next draft we are sending you many other french guys !!

Wait. We cant get carried away here guys. It might give Bob and MJ the idea to relocate to Paris and then we'll be without a team again!

Ahah

1/ Portland will never trade Batum.

2/ Why build a french team? Do you know how good these players are, together? We (I'm French too) are not even qualified to the european championship.

3/ France doesn't care the NBA. No network in France want a fight to the purchase of TV rights. "NBA cares"?! French medias don't care NBA, even the french players. Come to Paris and you will see how the French don't care NBA. Everybory knows Parker beacause of Eva Longoria, nobody could tell where he plays. Boris Diaw?! Who? Charlotte? à la crème ou au chocolat? - Oh I found a NBA fan... who's your favorite player?... - KOBE, KOBE!!!...

France is the worst country in Europe to watch NBA. If you want international talent, looking for some Chineses, South-Americans, or Spaniards. France is like... India. India loves cricket, domestic movies; France loves rugby and domestic movies.

4/ I suggest this team if you want France begins to be interested on the NBA (and the Bobcats):

PG: Édith Piaf (to give the tuning A)
SG: Zinédine Zidane (to headbutt Kobe)
SF: L'Abbé Pierre (because "mais-c'est-pas-possible !")
PF: Yannick Noah (he can score)
C: Jacques Chirac (because Sarko is not a true Center)

bench: PG: Eva Longoria, SG: Carla Bruni, SF: Robert Bresson, PF: Jacques Mesrine, C: Yoann Gourcuff.

How is the French National team not better? Of European countries, only Spain and maybe Serbia or Croatia has better players in the NBA. Maybe not the best, but they should at least qualify for the Euro championship...

Well, it's not the topic. I'll try to make it short.

All started when the coach, two years ago, decided to not take back two important players of the last championship when France have won against Spain for the third place (Spain after that became WC). The players were Mike Pietrus et Gelabale. Why? it's a mystery. Particularly the last one. The coach wanted shooters, true shooters... but they don't exist anymore in France. The "shooters" failed and the team lost his first quality: defense.

But that's not it. All the team was focus on Parker. The boy can score 50pts but it will never be enough if his teammates just watching him play... France has NBA players, sure, but they are all role players. They're not big scorers, they haven't got any leadership on their team. And european basketball is not NBA basketball. When you have a look on the best teams in Europe... none are french and there is no frenchman on their roster.

The "best" players weren't avaiable. A lot of injured players (Gelabale, Flo Pietrus, Julian, Pellin, Weis, Gomis...). A lot of players without contract (Turiaf, Diawara, Mike Pietrus). A lot of players too young and not let avaiable by their team (Petro, Batum, Ajinça, Mahinmi). Diaw with an assurance issue... A young star not in his best shape (De Colo)... that's too much.

Italy has the same issue. And in september, one of these two teams (maybe both) won't participate to the european championship (plus the world championship and the 2012 olympics).

Also don't be mistaken, there is a lot of good players and good teams in Euope. French players are overrated.

Better add Hellas before their posting contingent sees this and goes wacky. I'm talking about you, guy that thinks Spanoulis is relatable to TMac and the guy in love with Sofo. Lithuania and Slovenia are good too off the top of my head.
