Can Okafor Make The All Star Team?

I asked Hollinger in his chat today, and here is what he said:

John Hollinger: (3:47 PM ET ) Okafor has a great chance at the All-Star team because the East doesn't have a true candidate at backup center. It's possible the coaches will take Bosh at that spot, but even if that happens Okafor stacks up pretty well against the other forward candidates. The biggest battle for Okafor is perception -- he's on a losing team and he's not what most people think of as a "star."

If we have a nice little run and continue on this good form while teams like the Raps continue to go backwards, maybe, just maybe........

I think he will make it. Well if KG starts, a roster spot will open up because Yi is no damn All Star. Then Bosh can go as a forward and Okafor as our first All Star.

I was wondering if that Canadian was you. I figured as much since I doubt Mek has a big following up north.

Would be nice, but I doubt it. We don't get any respect when it comes to that sort of stuff.

Cool deal on the national exposure Slam!

Don't the coaches vote? If so I agree. They should pick him, but they won't.

Alright, so we've got our first buzzer beater this season. I would love to see our first all-star and first tripple-double as well. I don't think it'll happen because of what these people base who they vote for on... but it would be nice.

I posted in Hollinger's chats whenever I could for like 2 1/2 years and nothing. But in 2 weeks he answers 2 bobcat fans from realgm?

You're a dick Mr. Hollinger. Consider your back no longer "got".

Also, no way a Cat gets voted into the ASG. Would love to be disappointed, but it won't happen.

The TNT crew believes Okafor is deserving of an all-star spot. :D

Uh-oh Walt - then you would HATE to know it's the 1st time I have ever tried and only about the 3rd time I have ever read that chat.

So I wont tell you.

Here's hoping the coaches take note!!

Maybe having LB has the coach here will attract EO50 some attention when it comes to the voting that he other wise wouldn't have got with BB and the Idiot at the helm?

He had the pub coming into the nba. In his rookie season, he had close to 450,000 votes. I don't think he has come close to that since. Hopefully, his improvement and winning will get him in this season. We still have a few more games before the reserves are named. A big night in Los Angeles could secure his spot. Although, it will probably be decided by then. Even then, I like his chances!

As CWEBB said, "Okafor is one of the best centers in the world." And everyone else nodded in agreement.

How crazy would it be if Emeka won all star game MVP? :D

Emeka Okafor vs. David Lee. Jermaine O’Neal has had a lackluster and injury-pocked season. Andrew Bogut has struggled with injuries, too. Zydrunas Ilgauskas is out. So Okafor should get the spot, with decent, though not great, numbers: 13.6 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 57.5 percent shooting (though just 59.0 percent from the line). The only way Okafor does not get the spot is if we call David Lee a center. He did, indeed, start 17 games at center, but he has started the last five, and nine overall, at power forward. Lee’s numbers—14.8 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 57.0 percent shooting—compare well with Okafor, plus he makes foul shots (74.8 percent). But Okafor is a tougher defender, and considering it’s a stretch to call Lee a center any way you look at it, he gets the spot.

Hmm. Well, at least he's getting some press, which makes it more likely that he could be picked. But just as soon as everyone gets my hopes up, they'll select somebody else.

There is no doubt that he should get in. But come on, do you really think he will? We are the Charlotte Bobcats of all teams. The only way we get an all star is if we are several games over .500 and get national press because of it.

Would it help if he makes Gasol cry on (semi) national TV?

Seriously, do they vote before the 27th? If not then couldn't it be possible that this game might help decide matters if it's close?

He's not a star. He might make it because of lack of competition.

here's the catch: Brown confirms the league's instructions to the coaches give them latitude beyond the position designations that defined the starters.

For instance, though Toronto big man Chris Bosh was listed as a forward on the fan ballot, the East coaches could designate Bosh the backup center. That might hurt Okafor's chances, but he's not giving this a lot of thought.
