Sacramento has the worst attendance in the NBA

Post#1 » by W_HAMILTON » Thu Mar 5, 2009 5:05 pm

After years and years of talk of them being the best fans in the NBA, and how rowdy the crowd is there, I guess it just goes to show you how much winning does matter when it comes to attendance.

and it never helps when the owners are quietly looking to move the team to another city.

Should post this on the General board. Maybe people will lay off Charlotte's back.

^Never gonna happen. Bill Simmons tries to pride himself on his BBIQ and recently he used an argument for contraction claiming that 3 teams, Charlotte amongst them, never deserved to be expansion cities in the first place. How many years did the Hornets lead the league in attendance?

Maybe they should just contract Boston all together so Bill Simmons would go away.

Bill has been really harsh on the Bobcats I know. He's actually warmed up to the Panthers. One reason I hope the Bobcats make the playoffs so they can throw it in Simmons' face, because he said the Bobcats would not only be the worst team but have the bleakest future.

I'd take our future over a ton of teams IMO. How would it suck to be Sacramento right now? Or Indiana? Or Golden State, LA Clippers? Even Detroit, unless they can attract a Bosh/Wade?

I don't get the Bobcats.
NC is a huge basketball state and it is a beautiful place were free agents should want to go. Not quite as much as NY, Miami, Cali, Chicago although me personally I like here NC the best.
NC is a beautiful state and it potentially could have a great market being a basketball state.

Why doesn't the Bobcats have any fans? Because the games aren't televised. Only 4 a month. There are as many Bulls games on here in NC on tv. There are more Cavs and Lakers games televised with tnt, espn, and abc.

What Time Warner cable needs to do is televise all the games at least for 2 years and then they can do what they do in NY. In NY you can get the Knicks games MSG is the channel for 5 dollars a month. They make money because almost everybody buys it and then the watch the games and sell tickets and jerseys because they start to follow the team when there is a game on 3x a week. You have the same choice to do that with the Nets in NY and you also get all 4 sports for NY.
I don't understand why they don't have a sports channel that has Bobcats games for 5-10 dollars. They can package it with Unc games, Duke games and the Panthers along with the Bobcats.
If there was 3 Bobcats games on a week people would watch they would learn to follow the players and fall in love with them.
They need to televise the games even if there is a charge.

All true.....and when we did get a team it sold out every game for 15 years in the largest arena in the NBA. And then....well....I don't want to tell the whole story....

After this, to the people of Charlotte, the NBA = everything wrong with basketball

There WAS a channel exactly like this in Charlotte called CSTV that debuted the same time the Bobcat's did. It was a horrible failure almost immediately, and the cats quickly went back to the traditional way of airing games.

Well they need to try it again. It's very hard to follow a team when they don't televise the games and very easy to get fans when you do. Alot of bball fans might just watch even if there a fan of another team and then get converted to the Cats. I am a recently converted Bobcats fan although I am still a Lakers fan.

Dex, FYI, most bobcats games are televised in Raleigh these days. They show the Sports South broadcasts on a channel in the 100s in TWC called "special events"

I think the Bobcats are doing just fine television wise. Before the Bobcats would only show games on channels that were on cable not satellite. Since they moved the games to Fox Sports, almost everyone should have a shot of catching their games now. All I know is our improved play this year seems to be sparking interest in some folks. Hopefully it'll spread throughout the city.

Most important point. No one is going to go out of their way to watch a loser team when there are so many alternatives.

Wrong.

Unless you're within like an hour of Charlotte you have NO chance to watch the Bobcats on DISH or DirectTV. Fox Sports even blocks out League Pass unless it's one of the 9 or so games they aren't televising. Supposedly FS wants an exborbitant amount from the providers to show the games and no one is biting.

I'd gladly pay for a channel...even pay per game if I had to...but right now I have no opportunity at all to watch them play on TV.

I don't live near Charlotte and get every game on DISH. Its not on fox sports, but one of the alternates...usually 6 or 8 channels above fox sports.

Those of you that have cable...you have to call the station or your provider and see if you can get the alternates, since you already pay for fox sports (if you have it)

I went to call the cable company to order it but there not open yet. How much is it?
I would love to be able to watch every Bobcats games. I would be the biggest Bobcat homer if I had all the games.
Youd see me wearing A Cat hat with A felton/Diaw/Mek jersey.

Then consider yourself very lucky as you're the aberration vs. the norm (I'm surprised tho...aren't you near Asheville?). I have those alternates and it'll show the game listed, but it also shows it as blocked out. I've called repeatedly, literally yelling into the phone "the d*mn game is RIGHT THERE!", but it makes no difference.

BTW, doesn't DISH determine who's blocked and who isn't by region? I know one dividing line in regards to satellites is just east of Greensboro.
