Never heard of him in my life... but whatever, we had an open spot, maybe he turns out to be somebody.

According to the article he's the best defender in the D-League. He's also a PG/SG combo that's averaging 18+ points 5+ assists and 4+ rebounds per game. I LOVE this signing.

Hah...that has to be his cousin or something that's so biased!

This is exactly what LB said he wanted...a tall guard who can defend. Don't know if he'll get any PT tho barring injury as lately we've only been running 8/9 deep.

Hopefully he'll turn out to be something.

So here are the Fruits of my Dontell Jefferson related research....

He is a late-bloomer who did nothing in College except look athletic. He was selected in the 5th round of the D-League draft. (wow!) His most prominent attribute is defense. RU.com calls him "The best defensive player in the D-League," He is clearly a PG offensively but he is 6-5 and super athletic so he has no problems guarding 2's and sometimes 3's.

Offensively, he is not much to look at. Good handles and a Good passer but not much of a shooter. (30% 3pters, and that's an improvement for him) Scores at a decent but not overwhelming rate. (18.6 pts in 36 minutes on 45%fg) He also goes to the line 5 times a game where he shoots 80%.

The history of guards who can't shoot in the NBA is not great, so I'll be interested to see what he can do with the ball in his hands. It will also be nice to have a defensive SG option not named Raja Bell.

Discuss....

Just got to read the article. Sounds like LB finally got his big, defensive minded pg. LB must really see potential in Singletary or else I don't see why we wouldn't have cut him already.

I'm going with the assumption that LB sent Lex and Singletary to the D-League for just a short while. Give them lots of PT and they will be ready to contribute should we make the Playoffs.

I don't think lex is gonna do much if we made the playoffs, but sean would certainly be lighting it up for a couple games. This guy sounds exactly like the combo guard larry was looking for. Supposedly can pass and defend so who knows how long he could be here.

It allowed LB to play with new toys and dispose of them after a few games. Our revolving door of PFs wouldn't have been possible without freeing up the spot. Ah Dwayne Jones, Linton Johnson and Andre Brown, we hardly knew ye.

The future 2nd round pick sounded better then a current one.

Hes doing ok with the Thunder, some bloated numbers the last 5 games though.

F4P answered it very well I think. I love the patented LB "Extended Try-out,"

Jefferson is a try out, and a chance to provide some depth if something happens to Felts or DJ. You gotta have bodies in practice as well, and we needed a combo guard. This guy play D, is a role player who will know his role. Doesn't tilt the balance of anything as our rotation is set.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I love the pg/sg combo with D but 5th round in the D league is awful isn't it?

It makes sence for us to get a guy like this with the way we use Felton and DJ alot which is off the ball scoring. I think he will be playing the point more then the 2 and the 2 pg's will be playing off the ball when he is in. That makes alot of sence to me.

Marcus Williams was just cut by the Warriors. We should pick him up instead or as well and cut somebody like May.

If we pick up Williams, let's keep it confidential that I post from a laptop.
