MJ off the hook for Kwame

How about that. The truth comes out. That is good to know, though. Glad that at least that pick wasn't his and he wanted Brand. But Ammo was still his bad call.

Re: MJ off the hook for Kwame
Im a believer that he should have been off the hook for Kwame all along. Over half the GM's in the league, maybe even 3/4 would have picked Brown #1 that year, but just because hes Michael Jordan he gets hammered for it.
How come we dont hear about the GM's who selected Joe Smith, or even worse Michael Olowokandi #1?
Or Atlanta passing by Chris Paul?
Stuff happens.

Atlanta has been hammered for passing up on Paul. The real question is why hasn't Milwaukee taken any heat.
Humble yourself.

Pistons with Darko. Raptors with Hoffa. Wolves with Kandiman. Us with Ammo.
Most teams have at least one bad "swing and miss" IMO.

Re: MJ off the hook for Kwame
So, Falk, Jordan's agent, covers for him by saying that he wanted Brand, who is another one of Falk's players?
Suuuuuuuuuuure.
I guess it's nice since we can always throw that article in anyone's face that brings up the Kwame mistake, but I wouldn't exactly trust anything that Falk says. He's a weasel.

I thought that in his interview a few weeks ago he gave his mea culpa on the Ammo draft and said it was his error. Didn't he own up to it in the interview?

Denver for Nikoloz Tskitshvili.
Not as relevent, but how about the Sonics for taking Peter Feshe on the advice of ANOTHER Teams' scout.

Well then he messed up with Ammo and messed up with not going with his gut with Lopez. Now if you can blame Brown for DJ because Brown was the force behind that he is 1 and 1. The JRich move was great and the Ammo move was terrible.

I dont believe he messed up at all by not taking Lopez.

Re: MJ off the hook for Kwame
another thought. So who takes the fall for Adam Morrison?
As far as Brook Lopez, let me first state I really wanted to see Charlotte draft him and was acutally pretty hyped up when he was still on the board.
The problem is, to draft Lopez I truly believe the Bobcats would have needed to have an Okafor trade already in place.
To the actual topic of this thread. I guess this takes away some of the fear that I had that Kwame Brown would eventually suit up for the Bobcats.

Re: MJ off the hook for Kwame
Drafts are weird. You could argue that everybody passed up on Gilbert Arenas. Passing somebody up isn't as bad as drafting a bust really high. Toronto passed up on D-Wade, but at least they got Chris Bosh to show for it.

Re: MJ off the hook for Kwame
I believe that GM's should be expected to get a reasonable level of production from draft picks. I'm not so concerned about guys that get "passed up," If you have the #6 pick you should get a reasonable level of return for a #6 pick. You should not get bupkis from a #3 pick or a #13 pick as the Bobcat's have done.
That's why I'm not at all concerned about the picks of Jinx or Augstin, there may have been guys who turn out better on the board, but neither one will end up being a "wasted pick,"
Even if Jinx never does anything, that's not especially uncommon for #20 picks.

Re: MJ off the hook for Kwame
It's not realistic to assume that every pick is a winner, and I agree it's usually unfair to criticize passing on a later star (it makes everyone in certain drafts idiots in some cases, like Arenas or Ginobili). That said, a #20 pick who never does anything is still a bad pick... nearly all of them at least play a bit, and some are pretty good (since 2000: Speedy Claxton, Brendan Haywood, Kareem Rush, Dahntay Jones, Jameer Nelson, Julius Hodge, Renaldo Balkman, Jason Smith).
Actually pick #20 may be better than pick 13, now that I look at it: Courtney Alexander, Richard Jefferson, Marcus Haislip, Marcus Banks, Sebastian Telfair, Sean May, Thabo Sefolosha, Julian Wright, Brandon Rush).
Oh actually that reminds me, here's a neat feature from 82games on expected value from picks:

Why? Mek is listed at 6'10 and is probably around 6'9 maybe even 6'8. He is strong but it's not like he is a super huge body. You guys act like he is a 7'2 guy who has to play Center. Why can't you have a 6'10 pf and a 7 foot C? Teams go with twin towers. Is the team so much better with a 6'10 C and a 6'8 pf? Tonight we play the Rockets. C 7'6 and pf 6'10.
As for MJ he might of wanted to trade for Brand but his pick from what i here was Radman or Rodney White.

Re: MJ off the hook for Kwame
mj definitely liked white.... i remember reading that in the papers here in charlotte.
white was incredibly talented, similar on offense to glenn robinson, but man, dude was a moron. he is proof that talent will only get you so far. brain and work ethic have to take you the rest of the way.

Re: MJ off the hook for Kwame
That is why it's still on you even if a guy was sopposed to go high. Some guys are sopposed to go high an slip and it's because teams do there homework and should.
Before you draft a guy you need to interview him extensivley and you have to work him out extensivley and know everything. You need to bring in profilers for personality and give him IQ tests if you have to and got to make sure basketball to.
Rodney White was really dumb and could have been great. He was a guy who really could play both forward spots. Size for the 4 and game for the 3.
