jamal crawford w/ MLE this summer?

Post#1 » by fatlever » Thu Mar 12, 2009 4:40 pm

if he opts out, i think MLE is about what he can expect to receive. we could use his scoring, shooting, late game abilities. if i remember correctly, he and LB got along OK in NY. he's big and can play both guard spots. he and raja would compliment each other nicely, imo. and especially if we let ray go this summer, he would be a nice addition, maybe as a 6th man, playing behind both dj and raja.

thoughts?

Why would Crawful opt out of 19.4 million to get 11.6 million?

Answer: he won't...no matter how much pressure Nelson puts on him.

as usual, i'm lazy and hadnt looked at his contract or what is left, just checking headlines. yup, makes no sense for him to opt out. he'll tell nelson to "suck it"

So then Nelly says they'll trade him, right? That's the condition... opt out or we'll trade you wherever we can?

Is it a salary motivated type move? Best we could do is Nazr + Lex or DJ innit?

He won't opt out, the Warriors will have to trade him. If the Bobcats can get the Warriors to take on Nazr as part of the deal, then absolutley.

You guys are being homerish. Maybe a sign and trade involving Felton and other players but you of all people should know Crawford is valuable. He dropped 50 on us.

^ he doesn't pass and he plays crap defense. He's also streaky...the game before he "dropped 50 on us" he went 3 of 15 for 6 points in 36 minutes vs. Atlanta. The game after he shot 33% (7 of 21, 18 pts) vs. Orlando.

I'd take him for the MLE, but I certainly wouldn't want his 2 yr/19 million contract. I absolutely wouldn't want him as my starting 2.

I think he would be a good 2 for us. We could use a good scorer. I love Bell but our problem is it's really easy to like every player we have at every position. There all pretty good. But if we do get a chance to get a go to guy we would have to take it even though it would mean parting with a fan favorite.

I actually like the idea of Crawford although we would have to part with Felton. He is a combo guard so Bell can still get a ton of minutes cause I want to keep Bell. We can go with a 3 guard rotation of DJ/Bell/Crawford. That would be nice. 32 minutes a game each.

This would be a tough sell but how about AI?
If he goes to a contender and they get worse again his legacy will be crap. He says it's all about winning a championship but that was before his rep was being torn down. Now he did awesome with the Sixers and Brown having guys who only worked for him and didn't need to score and actually couldn't. Our team is a much much better version of that. We can score but none of our guys are guys that need shots and are just scorers except maybe Radman but he is a shooter which only helps AI. The sell could be AI comes to the Bobcats and takes them from what we are to contenders. I believe if we get a player like AI we would jump to top 4 team in the East and top 8 in the league. If somehow we get to the finals or maybe even win Iverson would go down as a legend. There is really no other team he could do that with and he takes a chance on killing a contender or he would have to play off the bench and limited minutes on championship team.
I think were a good option if we can get his ear.

Felton has a lot more value than Crawford - let alone Felton and "other players"

I don't disagree. That is what it would take to get him though. I mean they wouldn't even part with Wright or Randolph for Felton according to rumor although that was before he improved.
I would rather keep Felton.

Jamal Crawford is very good at getting stats on bad teams. Franchises and their fans are never sad to see him go. Hes a horrid shooter. Cheap 6th man, sure. Anything more, fools gold.

That's not entirely true. 2 years ago I was in NY and saw many Knicks games and he was the only real player they had.
He was never on a good team so it's not really fair to say. I mean what would have KG went down as if he never went to the Celtics? Not that I am saying he is Garnett.

Keep these facts in mind on Crawford:

He has never been on a playoff team. He's the leader among active NBA players in not appearing in a playoff game. In the second position is Eddy Curry - but Curry at least helped the Bulls to qualify for the playoffs. Eddy could not play in the playoffs because he was benched with heart issues.

MJ at one time thought Crawford was special. When Jerry Krause offered Elton Brand for the overall #1 pick, MJ insisted on Brand & Crawford. Krause refused to include Crawford - and went to the team with the second overall pick (LAC) and got the pick for just Brand.

Bobcats will need to trade - and I personally think that the above offer of Nazr would be acceptable to GSW

Jamal would be a good addition if he could accept his role as the go to scorer off the bench. This summer Golden State might be willing to take on Nazi as his contract comes off the bench in time for that monster freeagent class of 2010. That being said Nazi's contract might very well net us someone much better than Crawford next Febuary.

I'd rather have Nazr. At least he can't hurt us by sitting on the bench. If Crawford came here, it would be too play at least 20 MPG and that is 20 minutes of ball hogging, chucking, and no defense. No thanks. If he was a winning player, Don Nelson would keep him and get rid of the other selfish chuckers on his team. And boy do they have a bunch of those.

Come on now it's not fair to expect him to carry a team to the playoffs or say his teams didn't make the playoffs because of him. Neither is true. He's way better then JRich.
