Be Honest! Win or Lose

Post#1 » by Dexmor » Fri Mar 27, 2009 5:14 pm

I have never been in this position were the team I am rooting for isn't gonna make the playoffs.
I personally want them to tank.
The benefits are

1.Less risk of injurys to starters if the bench players play alot more

2.Bench players get better. Alexa and Sean can get expierence and we can see May again and see were he is at. Maybe display him and others.

3.We can experement with lineups, see if Wallace can play the 2 or Diop and Mek can play together and they still score enough

4.Can see if Diaw can play the 3 just as good

5.The whole team can work on the parts of the game there not good at

6.We have a higher chance of getting the franchise player we need so bad

Bad parts of tanking

1.The people who go to the game won't like it.

2.it's frowned on and looked at as bad sportsmenship

To me the benefits outway the bad parts by leaps and bounds.
I know alot of you will care about people think to much to admit that you want tanking. I want them to, do you?

Tanking is for losers. Cant do it. Wont do it. Cant have players who consider doing it.

I don't know if your serious but no fued. I will not fight.

As for tanking it's not players who would tank it's the coach that decides that one by his rotations.

LB is not above tanking. He did it on the Knicks. Towards the end of the season when it was obvious no playoffs he started guys depending were they played and if the player was in his hometown he started no matter who he was.
Considering LB has a history of this and is partly gm don't be surprised if we tank.

I don't know why you guys are so against it if it could be the difference of getting Blake Griffen or James Harden over Jrue Holiday or Chase Budinger.

It gives the young guys expierence and gives our guys rest. Come on.

If you knew that if we lose the rest of the way out except maybe 1 or 2 then we were guaranteed a top 3 pick you wouldn't do it?

I really coundn't be bothered going over the "why not tank?" thing again.

Let's just leave it at:

"Tanking is for losers. Cant do it. Wont do it. Cant have players who consider doing it."
"Tanking sucks."
and
"Grrrrrrrrr."

Lets say we tank, now I know were not gonna tank it and lose every single game but consider this as of right now if nothing changes odds are we get the 13th pick.

Now if we tank a little we can get to odds are 9 and that would be easy cause were only a few games away from that.
If we tank alot we can get to top 7.

Now if we are a top 7-9 team we have a legit shot at Blake Griffen. Think about that. I know with all the playoff talks and our bad lotto luck Griffen was never a real thought but we really do have a shot at him with a little tanking.
Last time Portland got #1 they were prokected around 8 and when the Rockets got Ming they were not even close to the worst team.

Any wins now are just moral victories. I am looking at the big picture here.

We all know with the draft being so weak this year and us having a weak fo drafting wise the 13th pick could end up being absolutely nothing. A total journeyman.
This way we have a shot of getting the guy we need to be a contender.

Apparently they have already started tanking. How else do you explain losses to Minny, Indy and Wash?

No tanking. Win the next 10 (or whatever it is) and see what happens.

Its pitiful when you are trying to avoid tanking but somehow are by losing to less than stellar teams. I guess there is no need to tank when you are not playing that well at all.

Well I don't think they were tanking witht those losses because at the time we were very much in the race.
Now were not.

To me you don't tank because you don't want young players to get used to losing. Our team is all vets for the most part.

Because even if we tanked, our playoff chances would probably be higher than landing a high pick in the draft. Even moving up in the draft wouldn't be that probable. I don't care how we end, as long as we get a good pick in the draft that pays off, I'm on board.

Yeah but we suck at drafting. You have to be a good drafter to get a good player at 13. Just look at history and this draft year is the weakest in 20 years.

"You play to win the game." Last time I looked we were still in the playoff hunt!! We are in the ninth spot. We were victimized by a fued between TJ Ford and Jarret Jack against the Pacers when Jarret Jack had something to prove and played the best game of his career. Losing to the Wizards hurt bad. That was just unacceptable, but we have to play to win and hope Chicago and Detroit lose some games!! I want to see the BobCats in the playoffs so bad it is driving me crazy!

so we pick 11 instead of 13? what's the point?
