Bobcats War Room- Pick Six - 2009

Pick Six... Perfect name for a lottery game. Hey, wait a minute...we are playing a lottery game. 8-) One where if we pick right, we win basketball games come November. So lets get started on our new task at hand. That sixth pick.

Now, you can't select Tyreke Evans. We took him in the fifth spot yesterday. Also you can't take Demar DeRozan, James Harden, Ricky Rubio, or Blake Griffin. So who CAN we take? Anyone you want that makes the Bobcats better than we were last season. Only problem is, all of these guys could make us better, so let's just simplify this whole process... select the player who will take us furthest for the longest time. That Best Player Available, if you will!

We have really had a good mini-run on shooting guards. Is the strength of that position still there? Does BPA switch to another position this time? Do the bigs look like good value here? Can we find that 4th Quarter GO TO guy here? I hope we can. Your vote will answer these questions for us.

Bobcats Nation, you have the floor. Choose wisely.

Might be blinking a little too early, but I'm taking the Hamilton and nominating Terrence Williams - University of Louisville.

Umm, weird... I somehow completely missed pick five, despite A) being all over Tyreke Evans, and B) specifically thinking "hey, where's the War Room?"

Anyway, I'm going with Hill here. True to my draft manifesto, my goal remains the selection of a high star-potential player without regard to position. Of the players remaining, that means Hill, who certainly has the chance, at least, of being a star on the NBA level, which I don't think I can say about anybody left besides maybe Jennings (who will be next for me once Hill goes).

His jumper is a work in progress, but he's got some good post moves, excellent athleticism, and can definitely rebound. If DraftExpress is right and his downside is Ronny Turiaf, that's still a better third big than we have. His upside may be early-career Amare (that is, pre-midrange J).

I believe that we have whipped the cream off of the Shooting Guards list. Now to address the front court. He is covered with warts, but we have coaches here now who can whisk that Compound W onto a rookie's game. At worst, he is a CHEAPER alternative to post presence than Diop or Nazr.

He is Hasheem Thabeet.

The reasoning here is that we have a band aid on two frontcourt power positions- second unit Center, and first unit Power Forward. We have to address both eventually. At six, I'm not comfortable with any of the other power forward candidates. I'll look at them in the lower third of the lottery. Each spot he slides, Thabeet becomes a better risk. I fully expect him to be gone at six. If he is there, we should take him. Remember, draft night trades happen often. I expect that this year we might see enough that we need a score card. Same theory as with Rubio, use him to get a young player with a year or two of experience. Like maybe swap him to Houston for say......Luis Scola and a pick in 2010, when we might be giving up our first to Denver for Ajinca? Think about it.

Totally agree AUS. I see this years draft night rivaling the 2006 draft night for rapid fire trades and excitement.

:D Snooze and lose, Pardner! :D We'll give you an Honorary vote for Evans! And hopefully, I can have a respite from driver duty to doctor's offices, which means I have time to properly set up the War Room votes!

I think I like Jordan Hill the most right now.

I think I just never looked below the top 5 threads or something. Regardless, since my pick won I am unconcerned.

I am surprised by the Thabeet love... even if he works out, he's never going to play because of Okafor, who he may never be better than at anything (except shot blocking, I guess).

And apparently we have done just that!

Our pick six on the big board is Hasheem Thabeet.

On to pick number seven.

I knew Hasheem would be off of our board before I got a chance to vote for him! :D
