Would you do this trade

Post#1 » by daoneandonly » Sat May 16, 2009 2:43 pm

Hey Bobcats fans, I'm a Mavs fan hoping to rebuild, I know the chances we'd actually rebuild are unlikely, but if somehow we did, would you do this trade:

DJ Augustine, Raja Bell, Alex Ajinca for Josh Howard

Howard is an injury prone pothead. No thanks.

dj raja and ajinca? for howard? even though we have wallace (who i think is a better all-around player than howard) at sf. why would we be interested in that trade?

Very well put - although I might have added "over paid" as well.

If Howard is overpaid, Wallace must be overpaid as well. Regardless, he's on an expiring contract, so it's a moot point. He would certainly help our poor scoring, but i'm not willing to give up that much for him.

First round pick + Vlad/Nazr/Gana for Howard. Get it done.

There you go, Walt.

Not trying to be a dick, it's just one of my peeves when someone writes mute instead of moot. I wish I could just let it go, but I can't help it.

Ummm NO!!!! Wallace is better than Howard.. Howard is overrated simply by being dirks right hand man.... He is excellent for pick 29 though.. we would say an emphatic hell no..

Howard is a good player dont get me wrong, but he is not worth 1 solid vet who helps us out a great deal, a talented PG with lots of promise, and who knows what we have in AA. But Howard isn't worth all of that.

I don't know anyone on the Bobcats side who would do that deal. DJ for Howard straight up is even tough to consider let alone adding in Raja AND Alexis (who we gave up next years pick for).

DJ and Nazr for Howard and your backup PG.

FWIW...the Dallas board has a VERY informative post in regards to Crash and comparing him to Josh Howard:

Re: Josh Howard or Gerald Wallace

Conclusion: From a scoring perspective, it's pretty close, with the slight edge going to Wallace. It's the same story over the past three seasons: similar production, but Wallace gets a lot more FTs. I can't help but think that would be a huge benefit with Dirk here.

Defense - By most accounts, and from what I've seen, Wallace is the superior defender, both in ability and attitude. More steals, more blocks, more rebounds, and more All-Defensive Team votes for several years (I know it's a popularity contest...).

I really liked this...as most of their trade scenarios over there highly underrate Crash and most of our players. They also seem to think Dampier = Mek.

Anyway...just in case you guys were wondering where these sudden influx of trade ideas from Dallas fans are coming from.

Talent wise, he's good. He's just not what this team needs. This team needs a legit go to guy. Not necessarily a star, but a guy that this team can rely on to pick up the slack when things are heavy, able to make stops on the defensive end, and hit some critical shots down the stretch. Josh Howard seems to be that second fiddle type of player. As I may remember, he led the league in points average in the 1st quarter. I don't think we need that type of player here. We need 4th quarter scorers.

spectre, to be fair you kind of cherry picked comments from that thread. There's been a lot of discussion about Wallace vs. Howard on the Dallas board, and the opinions are pretty mixed. I'm not coming here to stir anything up, though. The truth is, I don't see a Wallace for Howard trade making sense for either team. Their games aren't exactly the same, but they're both solid starting sf's who can play both sides of the court. We're not talking about scrub vs. superstar, we're talking about 2 very good players with some nuance differences in their games. Neither team needs to worry about their sf position.

I wish we could work a trade where we get Okafur and give you something that would really benefit you, but I can't find the pieces to put that together. I really like that guy's game, and think he would be the perfect compliment to Dirk. I think your board likes Bass and Hollins, but we don't have another impact player we could afford to offer to make the trade fair. As much as I'd love it, I don't think we're good trade partners.

If you notice my first line in what you just quoted...

FWIW...the Dallas board has a VERY informative post in regards to Crash and comparing him to Josh Howard:

...I was directly pointing to the POST that DDansby123 put up.

I didn't cherry pick anything because I wasn't referencing the entire thread. The intent was to inform everyone here why we were suddenly getting an influx of trades for Crash.

Just like with Prince, Howard and Crash should be similar in value but they are different types of small forwards. Just because we don't want to swap him for either of those guys doesn't mean we think they are inferior...only that we think Crash fits what we need better.

I don't see Dallas & Charlotte being good trading partners unless our intent is to dump some salary for Stack's contract.

spectre, I agree with all you said. My apologies, I did miss the fact that you specifically mentioned the post, not the thread. Sorry about that. And I do agree that we probably aren't good trading partners. You have something we want (for me, that's Okafur), but we don't really have anything you want.
