Suggested trades following the draft

Post#1 » by Bassman » Fri Jun 26, 2009 12:30 pm

OK, the draft has come and gone. We've got the junior G-Man and D-B in the house. Good depth picks, with Henderson a potential starter next year if he develops well.

So what options might we have to make a trade after everyone has allowed the dust to settle? What about this idea:

> New York Knicks: Why did the Knicks pick Hill if they intend to keep David Lee? They need a quick up tempo PG in the worst way! I wonder if we could cobble together a deal to get Hill and their PG pick at 29, Jack McClinton, by dealing DJ and Ajinca? Many will scoff at this, but DJ fits what D'Antoni needs while Jinx provides a backup big who can swing between the 4 & 5. We get our backup PF who could become a starter one day, and a versatile rookie point who can swing to undersized 2 as needed. Look, if we're going to resign Felton to a long contract DJ is more of a luxury. I just think Hill will become a very good player..not likely an all-star but a solid starter.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Don't we already have exactly that in DJ and Lexy?

<scoffs> at this.

How exactly is a good 2nd PG on a rookie contract a "luxury"? He's proven, and in our situation that's exactly what we need.

I would like a combo big 1/2 tho, but not at this cost and not for someone who was a borderline 1st in a weak draft.

Yeah, this trade doesn't get us anywhere. I'm not sure the Knicks are really good trading partners. We could use a David Lee or Al Harrington but their contract situations wouldn't really work here.

Slam, I'd hardly call Ajinca our backup 4 who will become our starter one day. He couldn't hang onto any minutes last year. Hill would be our backup 4 from day 1.

Calling DJ a luxury is a bit of a stretch, but it would take giving up some value to the Knicks to get Hill.

Again, I am also asking everyone for other suggestions on post-draft trades you think could be done to help us.

i'll need some time to digest the picks and rosters before i come up with any deals that might make sense.

regarding hill... maybe they will play hill and lee together at pf and c.

i still would like to add a few vets to the team... sheed, dice, parker, peterson... any of those guys would be nice additions.

How about Nazr for Jefferies straight up? NY doesn't really have a lot of Cs. That'd add some D to our 3/4.

I LIKE that move Spectre! We swap similar salaries & years remaining and each get someone we can use. Very good idea!!

Not a trade, but I hope we look at Dionte Christmas a FA. Its a shame we don't have a summer league team.

And Adrien too - although if Brown sticks, then there might not be any need for him?

How about we trade Hendo and Brown for TWill?

Only joking. Carry on. Nothing more here to see.

Who do we have a spot committed too already....

PG Felton, DJ, Jefferson
SG Bell, Henderson
SF Wallace, Radmanovic
PF Diaw, Brown, Ajinca
C Mek, Diop, Nazr

So that's 13 assuming we don't brink back Martin/May/Howard. I wouldn't mind, say, Adrien and Jerel Mcneal to round out the roster. LB will probably prefer Vets which means Howard comes back or somebody else with a few seasons under their belt.

Are we definitely bringing back Jefferson?

Nazr or Ajinca will likely be on the inactive list to start the season. We could use depth at SG/SF/PF like you said e4 in the form of a vet.

I think this team needs to think hard about using the MLE on a guy like Iverson for example. I know some are against him, but we can't score and he can. Bell might need to come off the bench but it's not like he can log big mins anymore anyway.

I don't think it's definite at all about Jefferson.

I don't think adding AI warrants us paying the luxury tax AND missing out on the divisions. We're talking 3-4 million bucks here if not more.

Hey guys... Would you be open to trading Diop to Sac for Beno Udrih
They have the exact same contract..

Gives you guys some insurance in case Felton walks this offseason and gives you the flexability to trade him away and let D.J run the show..

Personally I wouldn't. Beno is just awful IMO - plus, we have already extended the QO to Felts and even if we did move him, we already have insurance in DJ.

Beno is actually nice for about 15 minutes off the bench..He is horrible if he starts and has to run the team. I meant if felton left..D.J would start and Beno back him up...Anyway...Good pickup in the draft Henderson looks like he will be a good one.

I think that between paying what we pay for 15 or so mins of play out of Gana and what we would pay for 15 mins or so of play out of Beno, I'd rather be paying Gana.

If we are talking about a back up for Felts, I'd rather go the route of a vet like Watson, Hunter, Carter, Lue, Vaughn, Knight etc who we could sign on the cheap as an UFA.

Thanks for swinging by though. Please feel free to pay a visit any time you want. All the best with Reke. I'm really interested to see how he will blossom in the NBA. I like the kid.

No one that shoots 27 percent from the free-throw line deserves to be an NBA player.
Humble yourself.
