Felton free agency/Felton trade ideas thread

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/bobcat ... 05017.htmlKeep in mind that Jordan had been rough on Felton the previous two seasons, occasionally singling him out for public criticism. Felton took that well, saying Jordan never said anything about him in public that hadn't already been conveyed in private.
Seriously, apart from his some times on court disgressions (which, depending on who you ask can be forgiven), is there ANYONE easier on the Bobcats roster to pull for?
I mean, the kid is everything you could possibly want in a draft pick. Hard working, modest, appreciative, understanding, open minded, focused, proud..........
Man I wish he was a selfish prick who snorted coke, banged hookers and had 9 kids to 5 different chicks.

When you look at the 4 teams with cap room to sign, I dont see them going after Felton now. There is a good chance we get him to a 4-5 yr deal at probably the QO amount of $5.5 mil/yr. That would be a solid deal. Aside from being good pricing for his talent, he'd be a terrific piece for a trade should something come up far down the road.

If we signed him for 4 or 5 years at 5 or 6 mill a year I would be stoked.

Felton hopes to stay in Charlotte“Of course I want to stay in Charlotte. It’s close to home, close to UNC,” Felton said Thursday as his four-day basketball camp wrapped at Mullins High School. “I want to be there, but we got to reach an agreement with some things.
“It’s just one of the things where it is a business for them and it is a business for me.”
The Bobcats extended Felton a one-year qualifying offer of $5.5 million last week if the two parties can’t reach a long-term deal.
By doing that, Charlotte also can match any offer he might receive in free agency.
Felton said several teams have expressed interest, and he is definitely willing to see what else is out there.
“I want to go wherever they want me,” Felton said.
If we signed him for 4 or 5 years at 5 or 6 mill a year I would be stoked.
I hope we're that lucky. I'm thinking more along the lines of 21/3.

I would prefer $5.5/mil per for 4-5 years. I'd likely top it at $6 mil. Dont think I'd go to $7 mil/yr.

Reading that I'm thinking that maybe we wont get a home team discount after all?

I'd be shocked if he's not looking for a Jameer Nelson deal. And to be honest, I don't think anyone could really complain about that either.

I could. Easily.
Felts worth almost 8 mill a year?
No thanks. If that was the case I'd be looking for a S&T as quick as possible.

Depends on what you're talking in regards to a home team discount. All things being equal would he stay with us over another team? I'd say absolutely.
Would he leave 1-2 million on the table per year just to stay with us? That's asking a lot.

You might could complain about it and I know lots of Orlando fans did complain about Nelson's deal when he first got it. Felton does have this to point to as the two seasons (2 ago for Nelson, last for Felton) wasn't that much different.
But yeah, if 8 million is what it takes then I'd probably look to S&T him too...depending on what's being offered o'course.

I don't think he'll quite get that, but I guarantee you that's where his agent started at. He'll probably end up about a mil per year shy of that.

any chance felts gets a 6 year deal?
something in that 6/36-48 range?
i wonder if we will drag this negotiation out for a long time, the same way we did with wallace and okafor. it would be great to get this resolved in the first week, but i dont see that happening.

8 mil per year is a bit too much, but not completely insane.
7 mill per year I could live with, especially if it's a 3 year deal
5-6 mil per year is a good deal for the Cats. Even if we decide to trade him later it won't be too difficult at that price. I'd be perfectly willing to give him 6 years if he comes down to 5-6 per.

$5.5 - 6 mil/yr, I'd be happy with. Would not go $7 mil/yr. If he goes, he goes. I'd start DJ and then have the extra money for 2010. But I would not go over $6. Everyone thinks he'll give us the hometown discount. Let's see.

He won't sign for 6 or less. I think 7 mostly everyone except ohara is OK with.

Totally. I wouldn't want to cut off our nose to spite our face and I would hope the difference of something like 500k wouldn't be the sticking point eg: he wants 6.5 mill a year and we wont budge from 6 mill.

Exactly. If Kidd is almost worth that or more and he is 80 years old Felton is 24 or something. Id give him 5 years 40 million even which 8 or so. He is gonna get better. Cant you just see us in a Devin Harris situation with this? We gotta keep him. You can't pay Nazi 10 mil and Felts no more then 6-7

Nazr won't be making 10 million, but I see where you're going with this. I wonder if, or how, slighted he would feel if Gana Diop and Nazr Mohammed were making as much money as him. Even Vlade is pulling in over 6 million a year. It's actually quite sad, and funny, that Gana, Nazr, and Vlade combined made close to $18 million this year.
I wouldn't go 5 years/40 million, but I would do a 3-year deal for 8 milion per. No need to get locked up into that long of a contract with DJ still here.
And, Harris and Nelson did breakout their 5th seasons, so I'm hoping for the same from Felton. Maybe, he becomes an above average shooter this offseason ... if so, he would be better than either one of them.
