Official Not Worried by this trade topic. am i the only one?

Post#1 » by CatNation » Tue Jul 28, 2009 5:22 pm

I'm I the only one that recognizes that Okafor was mostly empty stats and hardly ever truly impacted games. In the last 2 years (164 games) I can only think of MAYBE 10 games where afterwards I thought "Man without Okafor we really would have lost that game!) He has always been a defensive liability, whether its getting rained on by Dirk or slammed on by Dwight.

I just dont see this affecting our win total at ALL

I'm sorry to inform you but if you don't think Okafor impacts the game, then Chandler is pretty much useless. Okafor >>>>>>>>>>> Chandler, I have no idea why your management pulled off that trade, oh yeah Jordan...

If I was a Bobcat fan I'd be so dissapointed. A Solid young big in Okafor nets Tyson Freakin' Chandler? This guy almost got traded for a bag of ****.

sorry I'm not worried about the opinions of people who have never watched the team play before.

Gonna have to agree that the win total won't be affected much barring injury. But if Chandler makes the team better than Okafor then it's going to be a big surprise.

Why is this another topic?

This should be merged. Especially since it has "douchebag" written all over it ...

I had a feeling we'd be dealing Mek but this one in particular caught me by surprise. Maybe that's why I'm not in shock and reacting badly to it. In fact I don't really have a bad reaction at all and I liked Mek a lot. We should have gotten more, but with our history of always coming out on the short end value wise maybe I'm just used to it.

I also have a LOT of faith in Larry Brown. That man knows more about a team and what it takes to make a winner than every one of us on here X 1000. Once again I think he knows what he's doing.

Defensive liability? Are you (Please Use More Appropriate Word)? Even assuming you aren't, who doesn't get owned by some of the best players in the league?

As a note, here are Howard's stats against Chandler in recent meetings:

12/8 -- The worst game Howard has had against the Hornets in three years came WHEN CHANDLER DIDN'T EVEN PLAY.
12/15 -- Chandler: 7/5
17/15 -- Chandler: 12/7
24/15 -- Chandler: 4/8
17/15 -- Chandler: 4/10
16/13 -- Chandler: 2/11

In the games Chandler played, Howard shot 57%.

And Okafor is the type of player that you don't miss him until he's gone. Remember that stretch one season, where he missed like 10 games or something, and we ended up allowing like 120pts/game? Yeah, he wasn't flashy then either, but it was obvious we were affected without him in there. It will be the case here as well.

I guess it's too bad that Okafor wasn't more like Chandler, who made about two plays on ESPN's Top 10 plays every night, but those were the only two plays he made in the entire game.

Hamilton, I love your posts. You crack me up. I wish you were more of a regular here, but I know you have to fight the good fight elsewhere.

Your numbers are wrong. Fix them first, and I'll respond. :o

07-8 Dirk averaged 23 vs Charlotte....17 vs NO

almost every big man you look up did better vs Charlotte compared to NO in 07-08 but its all small samples so theres no point in posting them all, like 1 game stats and stuff

I don't trust a Toronto fan who mispells. Lol.

Sad thing is, Charlotte is still better than Toronto with this trade.

That link shows that Howard averaged 15rpg against the Hornets.

I'll go ahead and respond:

In 07-08, against Howard, Chandler averaged 8/8.
Howard averaged 21/15.
Howard was +13/+7.

In 08-09, against Howard, Okafor averaged 9/8.
Howard averaged 18/14.
Howard was +9/+6.

That compares the last season Chandler was healthy with the last season Okafor was healthy, even though Okafor is going against a "better" Howard this past season than Chandler did the season before that.

my bad, accidently copied down DRPG.

Anyway, like I said its all very small sample sizes but I think its pretty clear Tyson is better at defending the big guys from what I've seen looking at Yao, Shaq, Amare, Dwight, Perkins etc, scoring we can get elsewhere (hopefully AI). Until the entire offseason is done, theres no point in grading our moves. I just don't think this one move makes a difference in our playoff hopes. you REALLY think Okafor is an impact player? you don't see the entire new pick and roll fold added to our offense? Feltons quickness and strength is just like CP3, but now he actually has someone competent to pick and roll with to make it his ability to get where he wants on the court worth something

Watch out for Okafor in the playoffs. I think Duncan will average 40/20 on him

In NO's pick and roll, Paul is the threat, Chandler is an afterthought to the defense. Vice versa for the Bobcats, defenses would much rather see Felton take a shot than have the guy that finished in the top 5 in dunks come down the pipes looking for another one.

I can't wait to see how Felts/Chandler and Paul/Okafor interact. I might have to eat a lot of crow if Mek keeps dropping passes or missing gimmies, but I don't really see that happening.
