Derrick Brown Prediction: do you agree?

Post#1 » by HookShot94 » Fri Aug 21, 2009 6:01 pm

Derrick Brown, Charlotte Bobcats

In another one of those bizarre twists of summer, Brown, who was drafted 40th by the Bobcats, played for the Utah Jazz in the Orlando summer league. He was the leading scorer for the team he won't be playing for, as well as proving he has the toughness to play for Larry Brown and the grittiness to be that rugged defender at the power forward the Bobcats are lacking. Against the Boshes and Garnetts of the Eastern Conference, Boris Diaw's presence may not be enough, so look for Brown to play a prominent role on a tougher, more defensive minded front line for Charlotte, and possibly be a starter if the Bobcats make a playoff run.

I'm guessing you voted that he'll start?

I think he'll have a better career than Hendothug.

I voted bench warmer. Not that I think badly of him, I just don't want a rookie 2nd rounder playing minutes on a team thats trying to win this year. I think he will only get garbage minutes.

Yeah, I know that. I've read it before, and it is interesting. Anyways, there was only one vote when I voted, so I thought it was your's. Sorry, and thanks for posting!

I picked the second option. I don't think he'll play many minutes, but in the minutes he does play, I think he'll be effective.

That is my thinking also. My only concern is LB not giving him the PT since he's a Rookie. But if he plays his way into gametime PT, I think LB will reward him with the PT he deserves.

He's a rookie second rounder, he'll be playing sparingly, so I voted bench warmer. I'm not exactly sure what "good numbers" means, maybe he could have some promising stats in limited minutes.

An even better question might be:

"Which one of our rookies gets MORE playing time? Henderson or Brown?

If the F.O. does nothing else on the Power Forward front, but they do sign Iverson, I can easily forsee Derrick getting 10 minutes of burn, while Hendo gets 3 to 5 per game. How many times do you see a 2nd rounder playing more than a 1st rounder? But it is a possibility! :o

Last season Luc Richard Mbah a Moute got more minutes than Joe Alexander. Twice the amount. It probably happens more than people think.

^Yea, I was thinking that too. There have to be lots of instances where a team selects a high ceiling prospect in rd 1 and a sure thing with their low risk 2nd rounder. Carl Landry probably played more than Aaron Brooks in their rookie season.

edit: well, not "a lot of instances", but like Calrissian said, more than you'd expect.

The East's 'Names to Remember'

Charlotte: 6-7 is around average height for an NBA player, but 7-2.5 is well above the norm for an NBA player's wingspan. And that's just the beginning of Xavier-product Derrick Brown's potential.

Charlotte's second-round pick, Brown could be this year's version of Luc Richard Mbah a Moute: a rookie forward who can defend 3s and 4s.

Brown's frame is a bit small, but he's shown great defensive intensity and attended a premiere power forward university (e.g.: Brian Grant, Aaron Williams, David West, Derek Strong, Tyrone Hill, etc.).

With Raja Bell to set a defensive example, Brown has the potential for a long career.
