Monte Ellis

If there's really a possible three-way brewing between Charlotte, Golden State and Dallas, the tea leaves keep pointing me to Monta Ellis rather than Stephen Jackson as the marquee talent being discussed in that deal. A quickie look:
*The Warriors would be clearing out a huge unwanted contract and the Bobcats would be getting in Ellis an electric scorer for Larry Brown in the Iverson mold (with whom he had so much success).
*The Mavs' role would presumably be to forward “The Buck Shot’’ and a cheap/expiring contract or two to the Warriors; then they would take some of the talent (and payroll) changing hands off the table, with Golden State's ultimate benefit being huge salary reduction and a No. 1 pick from Charlotte.
Adding fuel to the rumor is the fact that Charlotte has already done deals in the last couple years with both Golden State and Dallas, and NBA history seems to suggest that GMs do tend to come back and deal again with the same trade partners.
can someone please tell me if this is true.

seems weak, sounds like the author is just guessing based on a bunch of vague quotes and articles recently, and includes Charlotte based on this quote from the Observer 10 days ago
I think there have been some discussions and Golden State and Dallas seem logical trade partners.
I "think" there's been some discussions? What a scoop!

Sure, I'll take Monte Ellis for a 1st.
Can't really seeing what salaries match up. You're saying we get rid of Nazr and Bell to Dallas for Monta?
I'd rather keep Bell and pair him with Monta.

Is Monta Ellis really just a huge unwanted contract for Golden State?
Its hard to see them get equal value in return from trading him. I guess we would be giving up Bell, which would give them a nice veteran presence, but is a veteran and expirings enough?
I can't see it happening myself.
Dallas are looking to get rid of some players via trade seeing as they currently have enough to start a football team. I can see us being used to take on a contract.
They also could do with a backup centre, I could see us swapping Nazr for a couple of contracts.
I'm hoping we land Nathan Jawai, he has the potential to be a player in this league and with the amount of Aussie fans on this forum it would be fitting to land an Aussie player.

I'd love to get Monta, but I'd be skeptical that he'd be a player LB would target.

We don't need to include Dallas. Here is the trade I would make...
Gerald Wallace
Raja Bell
Nazr Mohammad
#1 pick
for
Monta Ellis
Stephen Jackson

No. They're much more willing to trade him since the scooter accident and the arrival of Steph Curry.
I'd sign & trade:
Felton (great uptempo PG and a very solid defense that they could certainly use to pair with Curry)
and eitherRadman (We all know Nellie has a hard on for guys that play no defense and can shoot the ball)
orNazr (They need more front court help)
For Monta
andAnthony Morrow
Justification: Even being a huge Felton supporter, its hard to deny the fact that Monta is the better basketball player. He's a big PG and a great player for DJ to learn from. Morrow is a great splash of offense for the second unit.
Monta, Raja, Crash, Diaw, Tyson is a crazy athletic unit that is definite playoff material. Raja, Crash, and Tyson are all great defenders and I think Monta is athletic enough to become a solid defender in his own right. Diaw is underrated on defense and is our distributor on offense which allows Raja to shoot and Monta to go 1on1.
DJ, Bo/Morrow, UPS, Ajinca?, and Diop is a great young second unit that can develop and learn from great veteran leadership

I'd do it with or without Morrow.

The Buck Shot has been waived, so this rumour is nothing more than that.

But the Warriors are going to play Curry at the point so they don't need Felton. Also, Monta is more of a two guard. Definitely don't want him running the show for 30 plus minutes as he's better suited at the 2.
If we made the trade I suggested, we could then choose not to re-sign Ray, (or sign and trade, whatever) start DJ and have Monta play the point when DJ is on the bench or when we need to go big with Monta, Henderson or Jackson at the 2 and Radman at the 3. Or Monta, Henderson, Jackson, 1, 2, 3. Or we can re-sign Ray, trade DJ and have Monta play the point when Ray is on the bench. And Stephen Jackson can play the 2 and the 3 with tough defense. Lots of possibilities...

I like Ellis but come on, how about we go after a true point guard or a shooting guard who is OVER 6'3? Ellis is one of the best at finishing at the rim, but he can't shoot or run the point. Apart from that, his contract is beyond awful, and as long as Johnson is the owner, there's no chance we're getting Ellis.
Oh and I already mentioned weeks ago that Jackson sucks. I don't want him on this team.

You're right, I thought about it some more and thats when I realized that it's a HUGE risk taking on both those contracts. For some reason I didn't think Jacksons was that long when I proposed the trade.
I do like Jackson though, but not enough to justify taking on that contract.

soon as i saw that dallas wanted a 2 for one deal with jawai i was hoping we could nab him. and yeah im aussie. the kid is pure raw talent. all he needs is a really good fundamentals coach (LB?) and clearance on his ticker. i saw him a few times in the nbl and he was a monster. im glad he got out of there because he was so dominating with his size that he wouldnt have needed to develop much further as a player there.

I still don't understand, why do you like Jackson. He embodies everything you hate: He's a chucker, plays awful defense and a turnover prone. Basically, the 6'8 version of Iverson.

Jackson doesn't play awful defense. He bitched Nowitzki in the playoffs.
