First preseason game

Post#1 » by Bassman » Wed Oct 7, 2009 3:03 am

Loss to the Cav's, not a bad one. A lot of shared time on both sides, so clearly a feeling out game. Didn't hear the broadcast, so I just read the story and saw the box score. Nazr seemed very solid with production in his minutes (10 pts, 8 rds, 5 of 7 and a block) but his PER was -5. All the starters were outplayed by the Cav's. DJ did well (12 pts, 6 assists) but a lot of turnovers (4). Wow, inx had 7 rebounds, 9 points and a blocked shot!

Others: UPS with 10 pts; Henderson had 9 on 3 of 10 shooting (and 2 of 6 FT's...ouch!). Flip with a slow start (2 of 7). Crash was bad (0 for 5) on offense, and had 3 fouls in 10 minutes. Vlad had the worst PER (-8).

So we'll see how the next game comes along. No conclusions to be drawn for a while. Hope to see continued production from the bench guys.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I was really pleased with the young guys. DJ was really assertive, UPS looks like a steal I hope he takes most of VladRad's minutes when Diaw comes back. Nazr looks like a more than adequate back up to Tyson. Henderson was meh

The best thing to me out of everything was that most of the guys that sucked were the vets that nobody is worried about. We basically kept up with the Cavs with none of our starters contributing...

If DJ can cut down on turnovers and find his defense, we could see a changing of the point guard during this season.

Are you referring to +/- when you say PER?
Humble yourself.

i heard the first half on the radio while driving home. hard to really get a sense of what is happening on the radio. i mean, first, 610 barely comes in at night in fort mill. and we only have one dude on radio doing both play by play and color. its pretty bad.

Yes, I am referring to their +/-. Saw it among the stats on ESPN, so I included those.

D.J. looked like a much better leader out there then Raymond ever did.

If Im Larry Brown and Felton just turned down 7 million and we need a 4 I package Bell-Felton for a 4 and get a backup pg and let D.J. lead us to the playoffs.

He is that good.

I might be eating some crow as I said picking him was very stupid with Brook there.

Well (knock on wood) if everything will go smoothly with DJ then our front office did a right thing by not re-signing Raymond. I'm not sure how he would handle being a back up behind DJ regularly, right now he is full of how he will lead the team as a leader (that's both bad and good thing).

Nazr Mohammed via twitter
Just finished our first preseason game vs Cavs. We competed very well. I'm excited about our team.

(as some, mainly on BCP, discussed his motivation towarsd next season - this looks like a good sign for sure)

Didn't you just say in the other thread that you didn't even watch the game?

I swear...if I have to put up with DJ vs. Felton all frigging season I might just have to go off on someone. On BCP last night at the half someone was already trying to compare +/- between the two. In a PRESEASON GAME!

Yeah Bobcats played well for their first game despite the loss. I didn't watch it or anything, only saw the highlights and boxscore. D.J seemed like he had a good game. Wallace struggled on offense which was a bit of a suprise, not hitting a FG i dont think. I was impressed with the rookies though. Henderson played a pretty good game and so did Derrick Brown. Both nearly scoring in double figures. Also Antonio Anderson (think he's a rookie), i havn't heard or seen much about him but i think he played alright. Anyone know anything about him? What he was drafted? What he's good at? etc.
