Well, assuming we pick in the 5-10 range, I think there's a decent chance that we will be able to get one of Greg Monroe, Ed Davis, or Willie Warren, my personal top 3 favorites before the college season starts.

Greg Monroe would be awesome. Not a big fan of Warren though

Not a big fan of Willie Warren - although he might grow on me a little this season.

He was the best freshman in the country last year. And he's going to be the premier two guard this year. We need a scoring SG? Willie Warren is Jason Richardson on steroids!

What I would be interested to see is this: Just suppose this is the yr the lottery Gods give us the #1. Now I have not seen him yet, but all the talk about Wall and how special of a PG he will be. I heard comparisons to Derrick Rose. Now suppose he actually IS that good. Now that we have what some people feel are 2 adequate PG's in Felton and DJ, (debatable) would we plan to resign Ray and then pass on Wall? Go for the best SG or PF available? Would be an interesting dilemma. I am sure if we did not select Wall, the talking heads would be saying how idiotic our FO is for passing on such a talent. That we are relying on Ray and DJ and both are average at best. But if we took him, they would say Charlotte doesn't know what they are doing and LB is hunting again for a PG and passing on some othere areas of need. Just something I was thinking about after I saw the Thread pop up today.

This really shouldn't be a debate because you can make a very strong case we need a new starter at each position. You take the best player available. That means Felton goes bye bye and DJ either gets dealt or he's the backup. So far this season, DJ doesn't even deserve backup minutes. It's very difficult to find a good point guard, but if you can find a great one, (potentially) then you have to draft him. Unless of course a dominate center is in the draft. Then you have a debate.

It depends on how far ahead of the crowd he is. If Wall is miles ahead of everybody else, we pick him and use him or the other 2 as trade bait. Or we could trade the pick for something nice (a la Celtics for Ray Allen). If it's close, I'd prefer to pass or trade down and take somebody else

Tyreke Evans was better.

I like Warren and think he'll be a good complementary two guard once he reaches the NBA but I dont think there's any question that Tyreke Evans was the better freshman guard last year. He bested warren in every significant category, scoring, boards, assist, steals and did so without the benefit of getting freed up playing with the most dominating post presence in college basketball.

It will be interesting to see how Warren fares this year. I think he's good but I dont think he has star potential. His size concerns me too.

One could also say that Warren didn't benefit by playing in one of the weakest conferences in the country. Did the C-USA send any other team besides Memphis to the tourney?

And one could ALSO say that playing with the most dominant post presence in the game likely detracted from his numbers.

Either way, the kid is fire. Plays in the Eric Gordon, Jason Richardson mold

Of all the SGs in the upcoming draft, the one prospect who, IMO, has the greatest potential to be a go-to scorer / all-star is Evan Turner.

Think a 6'7 player with the skillset of a Brandon Roy in the body of a John Salmons. He passes, handles, defends and scores with a prodigious offensive repertoire. And he's a genuinely good kid with a great head on his shoulders, the antithesis of the talented-yet-dumb-thug JR Smith type.

In their opener this week, he had 14pts, 17rebs, 10assists, 2steals, 2 blocks becoming the first Ohio State player to post a triple double since Dennis Hopson did so 25 years ago. In the next game, he has 24 pts, 17 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals.

Turner is who Charlotte needs to be targeting. But (and I'll go ahead and call this right now, just like I predicted last year at this time that Terrance Williams would play his way into the lottery when most mocks had him as an early second rounder), Evan Turner is going to be a top 5 pick. And Charlotte is not going to draw a top 5 pick to have a shot at Turner if they stay mediocre and have another mid 30s win season with their overpriced veteran roster.

This is why Charlotte needs to start rebuilding now. Gut the roster with an eye on stockpiling young talent or picks while shedding long term salary. Diaw and filler for Z's expiring and JJ Hickson as some have suggested would be a good start.

I'd encorage everyone to tune into ESPN2 this Tursday at 9PM EST to take in Turner when Ohio State faces UNC. It will be interesting to see how he handles the national spotlight. I know Slam will be watching.

I was thinking the same thing dmotumbo, Turner is definitely a guy who could develop into a franchise guy. If we want to rebuild we need to act quickly. If there is anyone on our roster with the value of a high pick it's Crash. Doesn't Utah own NY's 2010 pick?

Yes, but come on like Utah would really trade what looks to be a top 5 pick for Wallace? It could be a #1. That's not happening.

For those who doubt Willie Warren:
