Predict Management's Next Bonehead Decision

Focusing just on this year's screw ups (we don't have all day):

We drafted DJ Augustin instead of Brook Lopez/Roy Hibbert/Anthony Randolph/etc. (yes, I know that was a last year screw up but it was such a big one it warrants a reminder).

We traded Okafor for Chandler. We could have gotten something better than Chandler for him. We did get cap relief... for two months until...

We traded Raja Bell (expiring contract) and Radmanjovic for Thug Jackson (and his contract - say goodbye Okafor cap relief) and Acie Law (aka the guard that shoots worse than Felton).

I began to wonder what is the next bonehead decision for management? Also, what could management do to salvage this trainwreck?

Possible bonehead decisions might be

- not trading Jackson to a contender later in the year for young talent, picks and/or cap relief
- not trading Diaw for a real 4
- not otherwise trading for a real 4
- managing to trade for another PG that can't shoot straight
- signing Iverson
- only figuring out this coming summer rather than now that this team needs to be blown up

I don't see how signing Iverson could be "boneheaded" in the long-term, unless you think we'd be giving him a 3 year deal.

Obviously, the worst thing we could do now is trade DJ and have him turn out to be good, or trade Ray for another long-term contract.

Giving up Diaw and Augustin for Eddy Curry and James Posey would be boneheaded to the nth degree. As for salvaging our mess, I only care about making the playoffs right now. We won't be able to compete very well unless our points guards and starting center step it up significantly, but making the playoffs would still be nice.

Not making an attempt to sign Iverson.

That is my biggest fear...... resigned Felton to an albatross

another huge fear is Johnson still owning the Cats by summer league next season..

I think even Felton knows that he isn't worth that much after these 10 games. I pray that management can see it! If not, Lord help us!!

I honestly dont see the Jax trade as boneheaded. Especially now that Bell is having surgery and may be done for the year. Getting Law and getting rid of Vlad - well that is just fine with me. As I see it, Bell was not going to make the full year for us anyway. So we gave up the expiring Contract of a good Guard who will be out the rest of the year along with a horrible Contract in Vlad, and we receive an OK backup PG and a solid swingman who can play well, as long as he's happy. That is the real risk. If he is happy in Charlotte, this trade will have worked out quite nicely in our favor. I was somewhat tepid on the trade when it first went down. But with news that Bell is having surgery, we could have either kept his Expiring Contract but gotten zero production from him on the court, or trade to receive a player who has proven that he has the ability to be a go to scorer. I think the deal was a wise calculated risk. But I think there is more to come.

The real risk is that we have a team that still only wins 30-35 games, but now will never have cap space, ever.

I dont see any of the moves you listed as boneheaded....the last dumb moves I see where drafting Morrison and using what was then cap space to trade for Nazr.

I gotta follow suit and saying re-signing Felton for anything more than 5-6 mil a year is stupid...he's a backup at best

I'm gonna go with not signing Iverson as well.

There is no reason not to sign AI. He is lightyears better than Felton, judging by his short stint in Memphis. He was way better than Conley, and still had to back him up. That was humiliating.

Ship Felton off as soon as possible on Dec. 22. Felton, Chandler for Brand?

AI
Jax
Wallace
Brand
Diaw

Diop + Chandler for Brand. I would do it in a heartbeat. I would be be willing to trade Mohammed instead of Diop, too.

I think Battery was right about how LB feels about Iverson. There's no reason why you would bring in a cheap imitation instead of the real deal, especially considering past success together. I doubt money was the issue, either.

I think Felton is the reason we aren't bringing in AI. I don't think LB wants to hurt Felton in his contract year by not starting him. To that I say boo freakn hoo. He's already killed us for 4 years and just by playing right now he's doing a great job of making sure he'll get worse contract offers than he did last off season.

DJ isn't this year, so if we are only focusing on this year then he doesn't count.

Hornets are considering trading Okafor for expiring contracts. You wanna undo that?

Bell is done, Vladimir sucks, Jacksons a project & yet hes still the best player of the trade by far, and Law is filler. Lets complain about filler....

The Bobcats haven't been the brightest in terms of running a team. But its not god awful,

The Nets are 0-12. Their fans will throw out the idea that healthy they would be better..my question is by how much?

-Chandler is a better fit for LB´´s system than Okafor.

-If we had drafted Brook and Chalmers it would have been incredible, but I think that Dj could develop into a nice player if he receives minutes and confidence.

-Diop was a big fail.

-I don´´t think this last trade is crap, just the opposite,Jackson would fit better than many people think,we have had a difficult schedule, but I hope we can entry the playoff with the current roster.

-DO NOT SIGN IVERSON! Conley is completely lost this season, even Marcus Williams is better than him currently, and Iverson came off the bench because his true position was occupied by Mayo, besides,he made those big numbers because of the great number of shots he got.Without him the Grizzlies have won three matches.

By management you mean Larry brown. He is running this team and these are his players. When are you guys gonna see that. The reason you didn't hear Larry whine this season is because these are his players. Nobody to blame but himself.

Why are people wanting to trade for Brand? He's averaging 11 and 6 on 43% shooting and he's owed $50m over 3 years after this season. When we say "blow up the team" we don't mean "screw the team for the foreseeable future."
