Stockton and Malone are probably a better unit.

i think i would have to give the nod to mj and pippen over stockton and malone. close, though, but you have to respect 6 titles to 0. when you look at the supporting casts for the jazz and the bulls over the span of their careers there isnt much talent difference. mj and pippen won 6 titles at the same time stockton and malone were at their peak.

that being said, i think there are some more duos that can compete with these as well...

kareem and magic
russell and cousy
bird and mchale
west and baylor

MJ has a greater impact on the game than either Stockton or Malone, so I don't think title comparison is really relevant. The team with the player that has the greatest impact on the game normally wins, but that's doesn't mean the better duo couldn't be on the other side of the floor. Anyway, Magic and Kareem would get my vote of the new suggestions, but I haven't seen as much of the other 3.

its not like we are pairing MJ with john paxson. pippen was quite possibly the best wing defender of his generation. sure, he rode coat tails and probably not as good as the hype he got, but some would say he was underrated. go figure. pippen is the worst of the 4, imo, but i think MJs talent difference above stockton and malone is greater than their difference ahead of pippen.

kareem and magic in the early 80s. thats tough to beat.

I was just thinkin if MJ didnt retire the first time how many more rings would he and pippen have. That was to me the best sg/sf combo ever.If you stop mike, scottie would go off, there was not one game where a team could really hold both of them down. I couldnt agree with you more fatlever the supporting cast really werent that different,

Bulls had:
kerr,grant,rodman,cartwright,paxson

Jaz had:
Hornasek,russell,ostertag(sorry for the bad spelling)

Really not that much of a difference.

Rodman, Grant, Harper, Longley, Kukoc>>>>>>Hornacek, Eisley, Russell, Ostertag, Anderson

Greatest wing duo of all time. I think that's the better way to put it. MJ is the GOAT, Pip is a top 50 player all-time, but Stockton and Magic are in the running for GOtheir position, same with Kareem/Malone.

walt, seems you are only looking at the jazz during their 2 trips to the finals. that team was knocking in the door from the late 1987 thru 2001, with 50+ wins all but once (47) and at least 5 trips to the conf finals. so we should include guys like thurl bailey, mark eaton, blue edwards, darrell griffith, jeff malone, ty corbin, donyell marshall, john crotty, howard eisley, tom chambers, antione carr. the sad truth is, this duo didnt win big games when it counted. 5 times stockton/malone won 50 games and got bounced in the first round. no matter how good they may have been statistically, greatness has to be judged by winning in the playoffs, when it counts. i give them tons of credit for being that good for so long and being consistent and staying healthy, but i just cant compare them to the best, due to lack of production in the playoffs (probably related to malone more than stockton who spent the majority of his career fighting the "choker" label due to disappearing in the cluth times in playoffs).

With the additional Jazz names, I still see more talent on the Bulls roster during their championship runs, which supports my point (6 championships to 0 is irrelevant in determining the greatest duo).

In a game of 2-on-2, MJ and Pippen probably beat everyone, I think only Magic and Kareem would offer a challenge. If we're talking some hypothetical 5 on 5 with MJ/Pip + 3 players equal to the caliber of the 3 with another duo, then I think they are beatable. I think Stockton and Malone are contenders in this case.
