it all depends on how well diaw and TT are playing....diaw is the starter if he is playing well he is going to get the major mins...its nothing against TT

It could be that they're trying to lower his value for this summer. Think about it. Low minutes, resign cheap, trade Diaw's horrid contract start TT, let him blow up. The Blatche effect.

TT isn't quite there re: upper stories. I don't trust him. Larry doesn't really trust him. I think right now he is better suited to coming off the bench in limited minutes. He just joined the team recently, remember. Perhaps next year...?

He's doing what he was brought in to do.

Back up the 4 spot, provide rebounding, shot blocking and energy.

He's doing all those things. No need to expect any more just yet.

Tyrus is an excellent option off the bench now, since on paper Diaw has the wider skill set. My frustration with Diaw continues, as he seems to never demonstrate consistency relative to his game. If Diaw would be more demonstrative in attacking the basket and rebounding, I'd be a fan. But he shows you a nifty move, pass or shot, hits a 3, then just goes into coast mode during other parts of the game. Either his head or his heart isn't in it. He reminds me of a dog that spends most of his time on the porch or near it, then shoots out after a rabbit in a way that makes you go WOW! But that dog always goes back to being a porch dog.

Thomas is the opposite; he's a high energy guy who can give you lots of WOW moments during a game, but his skill set (especially on offense) needs work. He's long and athletic but a bit lean relative to bigger 4's. I like him a lot and hope we bring him back next year. I'd like to see what he could do starting, but that is a better option next season.

a) diaw has played much better since we traded for tyrus
b) tyrus is still new to the playbook
c) we need him off the bench to provide energy

regardless of his minutes, he is still almost always on the floor in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line and that is what matters most.

and lets be honest about what tyrus is and is not at this point in his career. he IS a solid big man, suited for coming off the bench, impacting a game with defense and athleticism. he IS a fantastic help defender. he IS a solid rebounder. He IS a decent jumpshooting big. he IS NOT yet a quality starting pf who is worthy of playing 35+ mins on a playoff team.

I fear that when it comes time to pay tyrus this summer his agent will ask for a contract based on his potential and draft pedigree and not based on his current level of play. i always get really nervous paying players based on future potential, especially when they have been in the league 3+ years. I really want tyrus here next year because i think he is a great compliment to diaw and matches what LB likes to do on defense, but i do not want to pay a guy playing like a 6th, 7th man like a borderline all-star.

just my two cents

simply put Tyrus is averaging 10.5 pts, 6.8 rebs, 1.7 blks in 23.5 minutes a game. WHY IS ANYONE CONCERNED HES NOT PLAYING MORE?

Those are really good numbers for a guy who was brought in to come off the bench and is new to the team. He has the 5th highest average of minutes per game of the whole team.

Heres the real question, Why is Nazr Mohammed (even as much as I never really thought much of him) only averaging 17 minutes a game?

Or

Why did we trade for Desagana Diop again?

You didn't know? Larry Brown is bi-polar. He could be starting any day or be the 12th man the day after that.

I was fortunate not to have to deal with it when he was with the Pistons. It was funny as can be, I'm not going to swear this time, watching it with the Knicks. Want proof, he would run plays for Malik Rose (who had 36 starts and averaged 4.4 a game) in key 4th quarter situations. Imagine a game on the line and Larry runs a set play for Theo Ratliff. Now imagine if Theo was 5 inches shorter, but still playing Center. If they made a reality show about Larrys' one season with the Knicks, I would buy it. I would watch as much as i could. More important then that, they had 16 players.........................................start at least 5 games. 19 players in all. They paid 12 players at least $5 million. With Allan Houston (injured the whole season) the most at over $19 million.

That was among the best parts. They had Houston at over $19 million, Shandon Anderson at almost $8 million (played for Miami that year) and Jerome Williams (the amnesty "winner") at something like $7 mil to NOT PLAY FOR THEM. Williams didn't count against the cap because of an amnesty rule that was put into play for the 2005 offseason only. All of the 30 teams could pick one player and his contract would not count against the cap. Many people called it the "Allan Houston rule", but the Knicks used it on Williams. Mostly because of the fact that the Knicks were waiting for Houstons' insurance to kick in.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/NYK/2006.html Matt Barnes played 6 games and started 5. Then was cut. I loved that mess. One team having Starbury, Jalen Rose, Steve Francis, Eddy Curry, Jamal Crawford, Maurice Taylor, and Quentin Richardson. I mean honestly, how could it go wrong?

I realize that has little to do with anything Dex said, but I just couldn't help myself...it was like I was possessed.

It is not that much about his production. It is more about his role (and I don't mean the enrgy guy fro mthe bench one). His basic role is a back-up PF. No matter what starters play ceratin amount of minutes in Larry system unless they suck a lot several games in a row. Backups get the rest of PT. And as Larry likes versatile multipositional players bench players tend to get minutes more positon than just one (plus we have unbalance roster). The only exception is the center spot because of our frakencenter situation (that relates more to Nazr starting, Chandler backing him up than to current C rotation - Theo sometimes play legit starter minutes, even taking important shots in the crunch time). And then there is our "if you're making 2 foul in the first half you won't play until halftime" rule. Tyson's favourite I guess.
