In a re-draft scenario I’m taking…

Post#1 » by AsparaGus » Tue Oct 5, 2021 8:35 pm

1. Scottie Barnes (Kawhi)
2. Alperen Şengün (Jokic)
3. Jalen Green (LaVine)

I don’t care what y’all say. If the draft was today, that’s the order. It don’t matter what next few picks are. Those are 3 best players.

Ill wait out at least the rest of this season at a minimum before I do a redraft. I think the majority of players havent come close to showing who they really are, including the 3 you listed.

Serious question? If you don't care what we say, why didn't you just tweet this or post on a blog? Isn't the very notion of posting on a forum because you want engagement?

Also teams with picks 4-60 probably disagree it doesn't matter what their picks are. Especially those with a chance to grab Suggs, Cade, Mobley.

I mean, if this is a let's-overreact-to-the-first-preseason-game thread, Josh Primo had 17 points in 18 minutes and is the youngest player in the entire league.
But y'all ain't ready to hear that since everyone panned the Spurs for picking him.

Really? Cade must have shown you enough to dismiss him as a generational talent. Either that or there are at least 3 other generational talents ahead of him.

Sheesh, Houston didn't even play a single game, and Sengun and Green are already the 2nd/3rd best player in the draft. I mean, at least wait one preseason game to overreact.

Bruh...

Don't do this to us Rap fans lol you know everyone is gonna scoff at this and especially when it's insanely reactionary thread.

You have to let at least half a season play out to really see what these guys are starting to look like or become. While I don't disagree that Scottie MAY prove to be one of the top 3 picks (or top) long term there's no way I'm giving a definitive stance without playing an ACTUAL regular season game. I will say though the more I see of him, the more I have NO regrets at all about taking him over Suggs and that's not to say Suggs won't be a great player in his own right, I think JS is gonna be a stud but I just like Barnes' upside bit more.

But I'm also not huge on your comparison to Kawhi - yet, he is however showing signs of more on ball creation than was unexpected. He's only at the very beginning of building up his half court offense which is basically Kawhi's M.O....Scottie's strengths coming into the league are actually more on par with Giannis, Simmons etc (defense, passing ability, playing uptempo). He has just started to add some drives to the basket, pull up jumpers, fadeaways etc which is incredibly encouraging as I didn't realize he had any of that but nonetheless until he reaches that point it's not a great comparison as yet.

As for the rest of your list, I still like Evan Mobley as one of the top 3. He just has too much potential, although I will say I worry about the Cavs ability to get it out of him. But I'm definitely not taking Sengun 2nd over him or Green. Green is going to be a lights out scorer and that's not a matter of if but when and Mobley can be one of the best 2 way bigs in the league so I'm not seeing that with Sengun although he was a great pickup by the Rockets.

Hope you're not a raptor fan because we don't want unnecessary heat towards our rookie lol.

Let them play some meaningful games before anyone even considers doing a redraft.

I kinda love the re-draft between the actual draft and before the season starts. It shows how fickle and subjective the draft is. We all adjust our mental big boards constantly before the draft, and then we don't really stop. A big summer league performance can bump a guy up 20 spots in all our minds. News that a coach loves a guy? Bump him up 10 spots in a re-draft. Got 25 minutes in a preseason game after going undrafted? Late first-round pick in my mind now.

I do like the guys OP mentioned though. But I really like this draft overall and I think we'll be getting a lot of long-term NBA players out of this draft and maybe a half dozen stars.

:) :)
but what's the point of a redraft other than to show who succeeded. where's the fun in that?
like in a redraft i'll pick luka and trae,,,,,DUH.

at least the op is taking a stand early. based on what?,,,,who cares. like the op says,,,"i don't care what ya'll say". somehow it doesn't resonate as well if he said. "i'm picking luka and trae and i don't care what ya'll say"

I'll give OP that. He's choosing early and standing by his decision. I still think it's too early, but not gonna be mad to see some Scottie love after all the flack Masai received from the uninformed.

Why you think that? I obviously all in on Sengun, best big in the draft.

I remember reading all the stats that he was dominating in Turkey (I'm not a international ball fan) but took it with a grain of salt. Then I had serious questions on how he'll be defensively. I still don't think he'll ever be a good defender, but his passing and positioning is really crafty. He just know's how to get to his spot and finish with a variety of moves.

Almost the same reasons why I wrote off Giddey even though Masai scouted him heavily. I just didn't see the defender needed for the NBA. But I look to be wrong on both accounts as they're both so advanced offensively. Not sure what there impacting stats will look like, but they both look good for different reasons.

I just feel if you're "loud" enough to call all these prospects bust or overrated, you better give them respect if they ball out or surprise. I'm not taking them for ROY, but both Sengun and Giddey have pleasantly surprised me.

Edit: Both have rabid fans on this board. Sengun with the international crowd and Giddey with the Aussies/NBL fans

I know that Sengun will proabably never be a true defender in the NBA, but in Turkey he was. I said this many times, but people who said hes defensive liability connected the dots where there werent any, they just saw a white guy who is not overly long and thats it. Yes, he is not a real rim protector, but his defensive stats in Turkey were great, and he was 18, his understanding of the game is just insane, and in summer league he proved that he can collect numerous blocks in a game. I think IQ will always beat length and athleticism.

I understand that what people saw was, a center who plays in the post and doesnt block shots, and is below average shooter, and that doesnt sound promising anymore, but people in America just didnt understand how insane his production was for a teennager. He is a prodigy through and through, He was so good, that normally his weaknesses like his shooting, would be considered strength for any other 18 year Euro, but he was just so good in the post, his shooting looked bad by contrast, he just didnt need to shoot to be dominant, but if he needed, which he will need in the NBA, I have no doubt he will expand his game and probably very soon.

If Domantas SAbonis can be an all star in the NBA still, I think Sengun will be perenial all star no problem.

I expect Green to be better than LaVine in the long run but he was taken No. 2 overall so I'm not sure why him going No. 3 in a redraft is notable.

Scottie Barnes was probably the most physically ready to play in the NBA on day 1 and has a high motor, but until he develops a jump shot, there's no way he's going No. 1 overall in a redraft.

The Sengun take is simply too far out there for me. He's got a long, long way to go before you can justify taking him in front of Cade, Mobley, and Suggs. I mean it's not like these other guys are finished products either. They'll get better as well.
