Re: What's happening to Tyrese Haliburton?
More and more it looks like those few months at the start of last season were a fluke. Not to say he's bad, he's a very very good player, but he was being anointed on some levels that he hadn't earned, and the injury excuses were giving him a grace period that will soon be over. In fact I'm sure some will still be insisting he's hurt in 2028 if this continues until then.
I hope he gets back to form because he's an entertaining player when he's on, but even last year I didn't think he had the versatility to his game that lended to superstardom (step back 3 or no look pass, pretty much). He's too passive, but that at least is something I think he'll learn to grow from with age and experience.

Remember he really shined last season early in the season when you weren’t allowed to play defense

Kids played football, drove cars, went to school, celebrated life; while soldiers, heroes, their brothers struggled to find their way home from war; and young boys watched and grew wiser in their dreams.

He doesn't seem able to get to the basket (or is shying away from contact). If that's how he's going to play moving forward, his contract is an albatross. As deep as the Pacers roster may be, they won't be able to pay everyone.

mentioned in game threads but it seems they need to go ahead and start Mathurin and try to move Nembhard for a elite 3 and D SF. I think Hali will come back around but it seems like he isn’t being aggressive as he should be as the main ball handler.

Lol, he was very good in the postseason
His has some injury concerns, but he's solidly at perenial all-star level, and could definitely make the jump into the top 10 if he can continue to improve
It's 2 games

Some people's takes on Haliburton two games in and Wemby one game in are wild.
I get that we've all been without NBA basketball games for a few months, but if he had put up the same numbers in back to back games mid season no one would bat an eye.

I'm pretty sure if Haliburton put up a 0 point game in a 30 point blowout midseason, eyes would bat.
0 point game where he looked like one of the worst players on the court. Yeah. Don't think the "aw shucks guys it happens" thing is gonna fly on this one.

I understand your sentiment, but those I assume were bad games in between a lot of good games. These are just his two games, period. But I agree that Hali has showed star player ability and this trend is not here to stay, but he needs to bounce back now.

I don't remember any of them. Even more unclear is why you think that's a good point.
If anything, its opposition to yours, which is that the horrendous games are meaningless, when the underlying factors behind those boxscores (extreme passivity, lack of offensive versatility) are exactly what people were criticizing him for late last regular season and in the playoffs. And coincidentally, what reared its head in the worst way tonight.
Nobody is saying he's trash. If there is a middle ground to be reached between "Haliburton is trash" and "these abomination games are meaningless", you are the only one not reaching it. Try to contextualize the comments ITT with the discourse about Haliburton over the last year, and watch how things miraculously seem less reactionary.

After the 0-point game on March 1, Haliburton shot 4-16 FG, 0-6 3PT, 4-4 Ft, the next game , 12 points in total in a loss to San Antonio: Spurs 117, Pacers 105

So if Haliburton puts up a zero point game in a blow out mid-season game, eyes would bat.
But when Haliburton put up a zero point game, in a blow out mid-season game, 7 months ago, you didn't bat an eye...
No you're right, that's not a good point at all. What was I thinking?

What?
There's 82 games in a season, Puddles. Played by 28 teams. Over 2,000 games in total.
Exactly how long do you think eyes are supposed to stay batted? How much RAM do you think is being committed to individual Indiana Pacer games out of a 2,000 game NBA season?
Another question: Do you know what "bat an eye" means? This is an international board and it's possible English isn't your first language, so I'm asking earnestly.
Cause you seem to have absolutely no idea that "surprise" or "worry" (the common meanings for the colloquialism "bat an eye") can be and often are temporary states, that evolve with circumstance/time. And it's causing a lot of confusion.

Thank you for your enlightening lecture on the intricacies of colloquialisms, O Great Scholar of Idioms.
