Re: Holmgren & Hartenstein
Both are great players, albeit they both are not extremely high usage bigs by any stretch. Yes, the blowouts were plenty in the playoffs, but they averaged less than 30 mins a game.
I think both will stay there. Chet moreso because of his frame. IHart because I don't think he can handle a heavier workload beyond this. But IHart does a lot of what you don't want Chet to do.... as in crash the offensive glass, be an anchor passing the ball, etc. His assist numbers were muted with Thibs, but I figured he'd achieve the same output in NY under a different coach. Just sucks that the CBA prevented him from running it back with us.

What were the rules for that? I remember thinking it was crappy that the Knicks could only re-sign him for a limited amount.

But going forward I don't think paying him 30M per year is reasonable if they see him as a 25 mpg guy in their rotation.
As crazy as it sounds, OKC is still a rebuilding team (just being so much in front of a schedule that they are front runners too). And attaching those picks to a positive value contract(s) for an upgrade is such a natural way to finish rebuild.
No matter how the finals end, I think Presti could make a move and pack Hartenstein + some additional pieces + picks + some additional pieces if needed for a even more impactful piece.
What player do you think they could go after that would do a better job? Giannis? He'll cost a lot and going after him has been discussed many times. Anyone else?
Giannis would probably be a perfect piece but I don't think it's realistic they can get him without including JDub or Chet.
Mobley or JJJ would be other and maybe more realistic targets.
But actually, my idea behind trading iHart was turning his wage into a bigger wing and then finding their backup center with a consolidation trade.
For instance, turning him into someone like OG and then turning Joe + some additional sweeteners into a center like Gaford, Robinson or TimeLord. But have in mind that I'm also a believer that JWill is a legit NBA player and deserves more playing time.

Do you mean Jaylin? Or Jalen?
The problem with those trades is that I'm not sure if those teams will want to make them. Cleveland has Allen at the center positions, so Hartenstein isn't a need for them. Memphis could use a center, but not at the expense of JJJ. The Knicks have Robinson and KAT at the center position.

Knicks could only go up to 4/$72M. They couldn't offer anything more than that. It was because he only signed a 2 year contract, which subject the Knicks to the early bird rules and thus did not have full bird rights. The Early Bird rules limited his next contract to 175% of his last season's salary or 120% of the league average salary.
175% basically amounted to about a starting salary of around $17M..... OKC blew us out the water with their cap space and offering a descending contract.
Part of this is due to Hartenstein becoming too invaluable last season with Mitch out. The naysayers will say "why not sign IHart to a 3 year contract?" Well - he hadn't earned a 3 or 4 year contract with anyone in 2022.

The Thunder need to start building up Chet offensively, I think he has potential to a better 2nd option than JDub.

Did Hartenstein even play tonight? He’s a nice role player but c’mon he’s nothing special.

He had 9 points, 9 rebounds and a steal. He's a good player...better than "nothing special", but not a star (that's okay....not every player is).

We will never know because OKC refuses to do a PnR with Chet

Mark D blew the game sitting both Hart and Chet down the stretch

These guys are the front court of the future, and I can't say enough good things about these two. Two athletic, lanky big men who can run the floor, defend, protect the rim, and pass the ball.
These two are defending the rim at a rate of 51.2% in the regular season, and 50.7% in the post season. That is honestly absurd. One of the best defensive front courts I've seen in awhile.
they are not because no team can afford such a frontcourt, once Chet will get out of his rookie deal.
okc took full advantage of ho cheap Shai, Chet and JDub are, but that's not going to last.

which is a really funny/ironic statement if you look at what he did in his youth. even when playing for the u18 national team he was often bringing the ball up the court and shooting from the outside, even some stepbacks.
what is interesting is that you can still see that he's very skilled, but he has a very high IQ to understand his role and not overdue it.
it's actually impressive how good he is on the short roll, and that's because he managed to build up from his youth experience instead of being stuck on the idea of becoming the new Dirk.

After he was subbed out the 15 point lead melted away like nothing

Steven Adams would have been better for OKC than Harti.

They lost the lead when he was on the bench. Started getting killed on the boards.
Out of these two, the guy to talk smack about regarding yesterday is Holmgren who pulled off a great disappearing act.

Agreed.
Plus too that second apron will force their hand to either keep JDub or Chet, so OKC will need to choose one of those guys moving forward
