Notice who was #1 (at age 34), #7, and #24 (4th among C, below only AD, Domas, and Joker)?

Re: Shams: New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Tom Thibodeau
The Knicks screwed up by firing Thibs.
Think of Thibs what you want, but he is undoubtedly highly respected within coaching circles. So... why would a current HC take this job? Thibs just got canned for *only* reaching the conference finals. What happens when whoever gets hired ends up making it to just the 2nd round or even first round next season?

I'm kind of surprised that the Knicks have shown no interest in Michael Malone, a native New Yorker.

Lol

C'mon, Knicks FO. Knock it off already!
This is starting to become hilariously bad. It's almost sad to see.

He really should if they lose this. They won their conference by 16 games, they were huge favourites in the final, and they have the most talented roster in the league. You figure if they don't win, they shouldn't go after a coach who can win it for them?
No.
OKC would be silly doing that.

Firing Tom and their plan was to try and get a coach from another team was a dumb move.

Pretty silly to just fire him without having at least one guy lined up. And I’ve never heard of a team actively trying to poach coaches from other teams..
Nonsensical approach.

The Knicks firing Thibs without lining up a replacement, then being desperate enough to chase Billy Donovan of all coaches only to be rejected, is downright hilarious.

The Knicks will end up being lucky that they weren't allowed to interview the likes of Kidd, Finch and Donovan. Ime is a different story.

The possibility of Zeke going back there while Dolan is around is never zero.

Re: Shams: New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Tom Thibodeau
I was beginning to think the Knicks are trolling the league and just trying to cause some disruptions between coaches and their front offices. They had to know that these teams would not allow their coaches to leave...especially Houston.
Then they tried to reach out to Chicago about Donovan and I realized they aren't as savvy as I gave the front office credit for. I think they don't trust themselves to hire a free agent coach so get someone who is still actively employed. Eventually they will settle for Malone or Jenkins.

Who give a sht? Thibs was considered a cancerous coach after the Wolves firing and before the Knicks job, let's be real. Now he's the second coming of Popovich and Spoelstra.
Let's say the CEO of a Fortune 100 company comes to you for an opportunity to run the marketing or PR or HR department because you were qualified. It will triple your salary and give you one of the largest exposure in your field but the person you'll be replacing is "respected" would you not take it?
Your wife (partner) would kick you out of the fkn house if you don't.
The Knicks already have their person, they did this same thing before letting out that Thibs was their coach. The NBA never issue NBA news during the Finals, so I expect the hiring news to be made official right after.

None of the current active coaches were coming to New York and Leon Rose knew that. In 2020, the Knicks also asked to interview active coaches and got denied, when it was common knowledge that Thibs was their guy all along.

this, there have been plenty of respected coaches who’ve gotten fired for one reason or another. if you feel like there’s a need for a new direction/voice in the locker room you make a move, which apparently the players thought it was time for one

Re: Shams: New York Knicks Fire Head Coach Tom Thibodeau
Surprised we haven't heard many college names yet.
Dan Hurley was everywhere last year, and he is a Northeast guy. He runs a guard centric offense. So many solid options in the coaching field these days, especially in college, that it's wild to hear all these current coaches are the targets.
Malone is the obvious guy, especially given his relationship and offense around his centers in Cousins and Joker. He could do a lot for Kat, and think Brunson is the perfect player for that dribble hand off package. We'll see though, I don't think he wants a job as unstable as any coaching job in NY would be. I also have a feeling like he might go the IT and Stevens route and become a front office guy if something opens up for a team with a solid ownership group.
Jenkins is a solid option too, but idk. He doesn't really have a lot of PO experience. I think he would do a lot for their defense though, and again would do a lot for their off ball scorers.
I think we are going to see a top assistant get the job, most likely someone willing to keep Papa Brunson on as a lead assistant. I think we are all making a big stink about nothing, and this job is clearly Johnnie Bryant's. Him getting looked at by other teams is clearly what led to the firing of Thibs.
