Nope, it was officially announced by the team yesterday.

So then I go back to the heart of my previous question, when are teams allowed to trade picks post trade deadline? Is it after the regular season? Or is there never a restriction on trading picks and the trade deadline is only relevant to active rosters? I ask because this goes counter to my previous understanding that teams must wait until their season (including playoffs) is over.

It looks like the answer is right after the regular season is finished as long as it doesn't involve anybody on a playoff roster with some other restrictions (for example, any player who has a contract potentially ending this summer cannot be traded right now).

Yeah Far Beyond Driven is a hot take-y poster. This draft isn't bad at all in the top 25--folks are saying it thins out about 10 spots later--and presumably the Pelicans like lots of people in that range. It's not exactly the biggest upside play since you could hold out some vague hope that the Pacers have injuries and fall into the mid-teens or something, but it's not unreasonable to want a #23 for a draft you're actively scouting over a pick that will very likely be similar next season.

I would think you don’t do this without knowing who is there, or unless you plan to take someone way higher than expected.

Probably ammunition for a trade up, and the team they are dealing with prefers multiple picks this year and not down the line.

Can NOP back out? I was under the impression that these mid-playoff trades aren't 100% locked in but not sure tbh.

Looks like a player was involved (Mojave King) but if you're right, AMAZING move for Indy... the injury is terrible but it would hurt even more if they didn't make this move.

Makes me wonder if they knew how serious that injury was...

The Pelicans have a remarkable ability to turn even the smallest deals into full-blown disasters.

Dumars is off to a great start

It's not a contract (Mojave), it's his player rights. That's the difference really.

In hindsight a great move by the Pacers. Although even if Haliburton is out for the season I can't see them being a truly terrible team to convey a high pick.
