I think MIN clearly won the trade at this point, and that was my initial reaction, though I stated the trade also gave NY more consistency and made them a legit contender.
I felt that Towns was only marginally better than Randle at the time, and that getting Donte who is a legit starting level SG to help with depth was a steal, and the difference in the trade.
Knicks still have the same issues as last year, and for all the love people are giving the Knicks, this series is more about the Celtics blowing it, injuries to KP Hauser and Tatum, and Joes bad coaching than the actual Knicks outplaying us. A Wins a win if they can pull it off, but KAT has been horrific on defense, and not the difference maker you would expect on offense against an elite defense. Celtics have literally had White and Jrue guarding him at times...
Randle has obviously blown everyone away, has been the 2ndary playmaker the Wolves have desperately needed next to Ant. It's allowed the offense to be smoother, and has also mitigated the lose of consistency from Conley. Dante has been mediocre this playoffs, but he's still giving them 30 minutes off the bench, and having Naz, NAW and him come off the bench is a nice option and allows them to keep guys rested.
Overall I actually think the Knicks got worse, while the Wolves got substantially and noticeably better.
Both teams have played mediocre and injured teams though, so next round will be the real tell all (if Knicks make it)
So where are we at with the KAT trade?

Where I am at:
I owe Julius Randle an apology. He’s been great these playoffs.

Like Anthony Davis said before he was traded
TOWNS and GOBERT is the diagram to win against JOKIC
The evaluation comes if they play in the Western Conference Finals

I'm always happy to see Juju getting the love he deserves...but I'd be curious to see KAT's #s in this series, cause I feel like one of big reasons we have outplayed you so badly in the 2nd halves of these games is that you treat Karl as this terrible defender but you keep settling for bad shots when you do get him isolated.
And if he didn't get into so much foul trouble early, you wouldn't have run out to some of the leads you did...you've murdered us in the Achiuwa minutes. As, despite reinjuring his finger, Karl has eaten your bigs up any time we've given him the ball in the post. We haven't needed him to go for 30+, but when we have needed him to carry the offense, only the zebras have been able to stop him

Calling the Pistons mediocre seems harsh, it's not like we're talking about the Lakers or Warriors; those kids have no quit in them and they have playable bigs on the roster.

Isn't it still to be determined? Unless one of them wins a title this year, I'd call it a wash. It will largely depend on what the Wolves do this offseason.
At the time of the trade I thought it was a boon for NY. They are better playing him alongside a center who can anchor the defense tho. You either have to sacrafice defense at C or probably some spacing on offense unless you can find a rim protecting stretch 5.

I'd rather have KAT than Randle. But Randle has played his best basketball so far in the playoffs and has been the X-factor in the last two series. They still haven't received contributions from DDV.

Brunson needs to play less selfishly and make sure KAT gets touches. He's not playing the role of point guard well, even if he is scoring and shooting a lot.

We don't know how much of that is Karl's injury affecting his shooting...and Karl needs to stay out of foul trouble. There have been multiple times in this series when he took himself out of the game right as he was starting to cook. Like in game 1, they may never get out to a 20pt lead if Karl can stay on the court and continue cooking Horford; so we don't need to turn to achiuwa...who ended up -7 or -8 in just 5 minutes...when they hack-a-mitch'd Robinson off the court.

For what it's worth... the Wolves also got a draft pick in the deal (which helps make up for the Gobert deal).
They get Detroit's pick in this year's draft. (#17)

I don’t know why there are still some people out there that want to assign one winner, and one loser, to every trade?
The best trades are wins for both teams, based on their own individual goals. I see this trade as becoming a huge win/win.

Well. The results are now fully in
NY Knicks:
Karl Anthony Towns
MN Timberwolves:
Julius Randle
DDV
Joan Beringer
It'll be interesting to see what the kid turns into long term.
