I wish someone would ask Kawhi what he thinks about that trade he insisted on now. I'm genuinely curious what he would have to say

But the Luka one was the dumbest as it was happening, no hindsight required

This.

This is what people keep missing. Trades like the SGA trade or the Nets trade are dumb because we know what they turn into. SGA had talent but he was still young and unproven; I don't think anyone expected him to become the best player in the league.

The Luka trade was never good. It's not about potential or "maybe," it was bad right from the start. He was an MVP level legit superstar entering his prime and coming off of a title run. He was traded for a 32 year old, injury prone AD and a late first. No one does that.

The Wilt, Malone, and Kareem trades are the only trades that should really be in the same discussion, and Kareem forced his way out.

Agree with this mostly. The nets trade for KG/Pierce seemed bad from the start but one could sorta rationalize the gamble at the time. The SGA trade clearly no one knew what SGA would turn into and also that Kawhi would be as injury prone/fall off to the extent he did. (in both cases it was teams in win now mode that felt close and gambled to try to get over the top and in hindsight backfired but at least the logic makes sense).

Luka anyone could say immediately this is a horrible trade. It's a win now team that just made the nba finals trading away a star in their prime, i don't see how anyone can justify this logic. If it doesn't end up horrible in outcome it will be luck more than anything.
