And now colleges are thinking about letting their athletes gamble on “professional sports” only but not college sports. Yeah, that’s going to go down well. It’s not like they have friends that are professional athletes or anything like that.

even the team owners are now gamblers like the owners of Mavs

To be fair, they aren't gamblers. They just own casinos.

Not sure if you guys can see YouTube short videos here. In this Wolves/Clippers game, the Clippers were up 9 points after a made free throw (the line was Clippers +8.5), he literally went Giannis and did a coast to coast dunk to make sure the Clippers was under. The funniest part, it only took him 4 seconds (excluding the half second he used to jump), which rivals athletic freaks such as John Wall, Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose.

At the beginning he's being told something and nods his head, someone probably told him the spread

I was surprised that he had the speed. This last year in Detroit, I haven’t seen him turned on the jets like this.

Nothing like a little motivation to step on the gas by being indebted to or in bed with someone who might have something on him, one of his friends or even worse, a family member.

*Edit. Yes, I know, innocent until proven guilty. Just wondering aloud what could have been behind all this for him.

Seems as though the plot thickens for Malik. This isn't a good look and him trying to make some money fast to repay a substantial debt could be why he may have decided to go the gambling route:

I love a flutter here and there so I'm not against gambling as a whole... but **** I hate seeing a pro athlete do this ****.

He probably bet on the Knicks in Game 6 when he fumbled that ball in the final possession

I just heard he owed a barber $25K in debt (most likely from gambling)

He has a serious gambling problem. Probably needs rehab. His career is finished

iverson was super smart man - or had an advisor that actually looked out for him. he signed a lifetime contract from reebok where he gets $800k every year for life but he set up a trust fund for $32 mil as part of the reebok contract which he gets access to when he turns 55.

I think a lot of people are jumping to conclusions in this thread and are claiming he had a gambling problem where it looks like he had financial issues and was using gambling to make a quick buck.

A lot of people hate on all the gambling partnerships but there is a world where Malik does the same thing but doesn't get caught because he's doing it under the table in an unregulated market.

Regardless of what people think of gambling the following 2 things are true:

1) NBA players were gambling long before the NBA partnered with gambling companies
2) It's much easier to catch an NBA player breaking in game gambling related rules because it's more regulated

Why not just take a personal loan and once the new deal is signed pay it back as soon as you can so you can avoid heavy interest? Or better yet, sell the house that is probably worth millions, pay off the debt, and buy a cheaper house.

Based on the actual article, not sure why he needed a marketing agent, but yeah, I can see why they sued if he isn’t going to pay them back.

The investigation is due to his time in a Bucks uniform.

Probably bet on the Grizzlies to beat the Lakers in 2023 when he couldn't buy a 3 pointer. Ended up getting benched.

NBA players are not the first to get caught. Ever heard of Ohtani?
