Both are very impressive, but Luka's is harder to pull off IMO, live ball is harder than inbound.

How? Live dribble: the defense isn't set. While inbound, the defense is set and prepared.

Especially so when the live dribble is on a fast break. A transition defense vs a set defense.

Jokic is better, to me at least.

The defense wasn't set on that YouTube clip of Jokic either. They let Gordon behind everyone, Jokic recognized it and threw a home run pass. The defense didnt realize the ball was being inbounded yet. If the defense was set, the alley oop wouldn't have worked. Throwing a pass in a live situation is more impressive and difficult, as it doesnt come from a standstill. Passing on the move is more difficult than a standstill.

Yeah I have seen Jokic use the a fake shot, fake hook and floater for lobs.

While they may look fundamentally the same, it’s quite not comparable imo.

Watch from 13:50

Trae is doing this in semi-transition, from beyond the arc—sometimes logo distance—without a post game due to his small frame. One-legged fadeaway teardrop 3s and having to respect such an unorthodox shot because he’s the only other player besides Lamelo who can hit that somewhat consistently, is the reason the lob threat is there. I’ve seen Jokic’s version in the interior get blocked or intercepted. This is near unguardable if the angle/defense permits the catch for the cutter. As the video states, this shot style is still in its infancy.

That whole video is basketball gold, just fantastic content.

Wade was one of the best ever at this as well.

There is a lot that goes into throwing a lob.

Luka has insane ability to wait to the perfect moment and very last second when the defense is drawn it to float it over them for the easy lob. I think his gravity and ability to body up around the mid range and throw a lob from any angle or in any situation puts him above Trae.

Trae is elite at it but it's more in the flow of the play. Luka with his extra size and height has a bit more advantages to throw it.
