Not really. The 2000s Lakers were literally a two man show with no depth and GP was passed his prime, Malone was literally on his last legs. There’s Clippers have quality depth even if they don’t have t the top end talent the Lakers had.

Also Shaq was 31 and Kobe 25 years old on that team. So Shaq was as old as Houston Rockets Harden, and Kobe was as old as New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul. So their stars were decievably young.

Even Gary Payton, who may feel like the 40 year old Chris Paul of this Clippers outfit, was only 35, so younger than Harden, almost the same age as Kawhi this season.

More like the 21/22 Lakers.

If Harden goes down, they have CP3 to back him up. If its Beal, they have Bogi and Dunn. If its Kawhi they have DJJ. This team is complete.

I think that's the strategy for signing all these veteran players. I know CP3 doesn't have the best playoff resume but if/when Harden struggles in G7 again, they can roll out CP3 instead without missing much on ball handling and playmaking. They have options in the playoff, and capable players to grind out the regular season. This might be the deepest team in the NBA right now deeper than OKC. Batum and Bogdanović are their 10th and 11th man that could start for any team, in fact their whole 2nd unit Lopez/Batum/Jones Jr./Bogdanović/Dunn could start

Last year I called 1st round and 50 ish wins correctly. This year I have them around 55-56 wins and a 2nd round exit.

The non-OKC west isn’t that weak, is it?

Denver and Houston are good but not great. I think outside of OKC the west and even east is fairly open
