ESPN doesn't seem to want to spend money to make money. At least not for small money. To them spending say 100 million to turn a 5 million profit isn't worth while. Which to most people seems insane, but that seems to be the trend. They only want high returns and don't want to be a sprawling large media company.

I don't get it...but that at least does seem to be the issue with things like pushing Podcasts or creating high value subscription type content. It's profitable but not enough for them to bother.

It’s the classic Disney problem imo. They spam anything that works & drives profit until it’s oversaturated at the expense of developing new shows/content. It happened with Marvel/Star Wars, Pixar has been a sequel factory with fewer new hits, and we’re seeing it at ESPN with the SAS & Pat McAfee.
