I think when people say "mental" it doesn't necessary mean depression or soft, I do think he is mentally soft and also play soft which led to him not having the mental toughness to come back from his injuries, both physical and mental. Michael Porter Jr. had 3 back surgeries in 4 years, played 70+ games the past 2 seasons. KD played 60+ the past two seasons. So while injuries is the main reason why he wasn't able to stay on the court, his mental toughness and work ethics play a role too imo

KD and MPJ are tall shooters. Ben Simmons was a lot more reliant on his athletic advantages. Even with that in mind:
- KD missed a full season, then played 35, 55, and 47 games the next 3 seasons. It's cool that he's bounced back some, but it took time. He also completely stopped getting to the rim, and lives exclusively off his pull up game.
- MPJ missed a full season, and played only 9 games in another. He also lost most of his juice at the rim and became almost exclusively a movement shooter. He finally looked a little better this year, but then got hurt again in the playoffs.

"Mental softness" is such an overstated concept. It's a narrative we pin on guys, not an actual measurement of some kind of intangible quality.

Simmons has kept himself in great physical shape, he clearly works hard on his body. He also plays a lot of pick up games in preseason.

I think he's clearly not soft mentally. He's done this all with 99% of fans against him.

Next week, we should have the "decision" from Ben.

Are you anxious about it?

If he wanted to be true to himself he should just disappear never to be heard of again. I wouldnt waste a roster spot on him

He should also return his rookie of the year award to rightful winner Donovan mitchell.

He'd rather get fined than facing his teammates, fans and media, if that's not the definition of mentally soft I don't know what is. I'm not saying he is where he is now because he is soft, his body is definitely failing him, but his mindset doesn't help.

Sixers fans defended him for the vast majority of his time with Sixers, it was really only in the last year where he was blamed a lot. In fact, Sixers fans gave him a pass way too many times for his zero improvements in his game, but the main issue was in how the Sixers org coddled him, especially Brett Brown.
Then, I don't think Nets fans or Clippers fans blamed him much, mainly because he didn't have the same expectations he had with Sixers, being the 1st pick and all that.
This 99% of fans against him is BS, maybe only in RealGM.

Personally, I don't get into that stuff as much. All we get from fans is gossip and media slants. We rarely actually know what going on, in terms of interpersonal dynamics. It's not that I don't have an opinion on the situation, it's just that I don't put much stock into my reaction to a situation I know almost nothing about.

We can each believe whatever we want about it, but I don't get fans feeling any conviction about their opinions.

I don’t get into the whats and whys. I just know he will share tweete and videos about getting revenge and trying to show what’s in store for everyone, and then when the season starts he looks like he completely doesn’t care on the floor. He has no fight on the floor. It doesn’t matter if it’s his brain or his back, I wouldn’t want it on my team.
